Chelsea — A 24-year-old Barre, Vt., man has been charged in connection with the overdose death of a Chelsea man in August.

Jacob M. Rillo is being held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail pending his arraignment on Tuesday in Washington Superior Court in Barre, according to a Vermont State Police news release.

Jessie L. Boardman, 26, died of a heroin overdose in August while en route to Gifford Medical Center in Randolph from the Tunbridge area, the release said.

“The investigation revealed that the heroin containing fentanyl causing the death of the victim was purchased from the accused, Jacob Rillo, the evening prior to (Boardman’s) death,” according to the release.

Police arrested Rillo on Friday as he was leaving a Vermont courthouse on unrelated charges. He faces counts of distributing a regulated drug with death resulting, as well as selling heroin and another regulated drug.
