Orford — Jasmin Johnson’s second 3-pointer of the night broke a 37-37 tie in the final minutes, setting the stage for Grace Dorman’s steal and go-ahead basket as Sharon Academy pulled a 43-37 upset of Rivendell Academy in a Central Vermont League girls basketball game on Monday night.

In what Phoenix coach Gregg Nalette called “our biggest win, for sure,” Dorman produced her third big game in two weeks as Sharon (4-8) took a bite out of the Raptors’ postseason position hopes. Rivendell (10-5) had been angling for a top-four seed in Vermont Division III.

“This is a huge win for us,” Nalette said. “We’ve been definitely player better as of late. We just hung around, hung around, hung around and were able to pull it off tonight.”

Rivendell’s usual scorers, Riley Thomson (15 points) and Mikayla DeBois (13), did their usual damage. Sharon, however, corralled the rest, holding the Raptors to just 20 points over the final three quarters.

Dorman’s team-leading 16 points was no surprise for Nalette.

“She’s been playing great lately,” Nalette noted. “The last game (a Feb. 3 loss to Whitcomb-Rochester), she was in foul trouble and only had three points, but the two previously before that she had 18 (against Twinfield on Feb. 1) and 19 (against South Royalton on Jan. 30). We’ve been looking for her down low, and she’s been finishing and doing a good job on the boards as well.”

Mallory Lloyd and Jocelyn Johnson both scored seven points for the Phoenix, which hosts Williamstown on Wednesday. Rivendell entertains Chelsea, also on Wednesday.

Boys Hockey

Hartford 5, Northfield 2

Northfield, Vt. — Jordy Allard broke a 2-2 tie with his third goal of the game late in the second period, sending the Hurricanes (12-4-0) to victory in a makeup game at Norwich University’s Kreitzberg Arena.

The Marauders countered Allard’s two first-period goals, so the Hartford scorer trumped the hosts by adding a third — for his fourth hat trick of the season — with 3:10 left in the middle stanza. Ben Rouillard (three assists) and Tyler Hamilton added goals in the final period. Allard and Patrick McGlone also posted assists, and Richie Morrill recorded the 13-save win in goal.

The Canes visit Missisquoi on Wednesday night.
