Grafton, N.H. — Ellen (Fennelly) Williams, 85, of Williams Hill Road, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon, N.H., after a period of failing health.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 10, 1931, the daughter of Philip and Mary (Pendroh) Fennelly.

She moved to Grafton, N.H., in 1934, graduated from Lebanon High School, Children’s Hospital School of Nursing in Boston and later in 1977 from New England College.

Ellen had worked at the New London Hospital and been the school nurse in the Newfound area which included 11 towns. She was the first visiting nurse for the Mascoma Area Health Council and for the Well Child Clinics. She was the school nurse at Mascoma Valley Regional High School for 19 years retiring in 1992, and a substitute nurse at Cardigan Mountain School for many years.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Canaan, N.H., and very active at church. Ellen had been the Tax Collector for the Town of Grafton and was very involved throughout the town. She was a member of the Grafton Fire  Auxiliary, a volunteer at the Canaan Elementary School, the Grafton Library and blood drives hosted at St. Mary’s. An extremely kind and thoughtful person, Ellen could be found helping out at any function and lending a hand wherever necessary, and whenever possible.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela, and her son, James. Members of her family surviving include her husband of 64 years, Richard F. Williams of Grafton; four children, Stephanie and her husband, Karel Pluhar of Grafton, Gregg and his wife, Kelly Williams of Midlothian, Va., Christopher Williams of Grafton, and Kent Williams of Aiken, S.C.; 15 grandchildren, Pavel, David, Mikael, Matthew, Allison, Jessica, Clinton, Zachary, Tristan, Garrett, Nicole, Joshua, Brittany, Reid and Blair; nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Route 4, Canaan, N.H., and burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Grafton, in the spring.
