Giesing, a junior, broke her own D-II record in the 1,000 meters by nearly six seconds after finishing in 3 minutes, 5.19 seconds. Giesing had set the old record (3:11.06) Feb. 8, 2016, during her sophomore season. The top six finishers in each event qualified to compete in the New England Championships on March 4 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Mass.
The Olympians had two other qualifiers on the girls side, led by Leanne Burgess in fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:52.70. Tyrus Rosten took the final qualifying spot in the 1,000-meter run, finishing sixth in 3:29.48.
Alexandra Timmins breezed through qualification for the Whitcomb girls, finishing first in the 3,200 meters in 12:30.26. Hartford’s Ileana Sirois qualified in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 9.32 seconds.
Thetford’s Meaggie Balch will move on after a third place finish in the 1,600 meters (5:49.95). Grace Clement added an eighth place finish in the high jump for the Panthers. Morgan Lavoy had a trio of strong showings for Thetford, finishing 10th in the long jump, 16th in the 300-meter dash and 20th in the 55-meter dash.
Sprinter Abayomi Lowe qualified in a pair of events for the Hartford boys, finishing third in the 300-meter dash (37.77 seconds) and fourth in in the 55-meter dash (6.79 seconds).
Jon Puffer qualified in the 600-meters for Oxbow, finishing second in 1:30.24.
Caleb Davidson led the Thetford boys contingent, falling just short of qualifying with a seventh place finish in the shot put.
Lebanon Girls 1st, Boys 2nd
Plymouth, n.h.
Maria Goodwin led the way for Lebanon in fourth. Bri Hibner was fifth, Hannah Falcone was seventh and Celia Barnett took eighth. Cecilia Webber added a 14th place finish and Allison Carl was 16th.
Hanover’s Megan Smith was third overall. Margo Davis followed in 11th, Maeve Goodrich was 13th, Leila Trummel was 15th, Shannon Walsh was 21st and Teresa Snyder took 23rd.
Arturo Johnson was first for the Hanover boys in 17 minutes, 56 seconds. Teammate Glen Passow was also near the top of the board, finishing third. The Marauders also had Daniel Bandler in 16th, Peter Burnham in 18th and Caffrey Fielding in 25th.
Jacob Willeman (fourth) and Owen Johnstone (fifth) led the Lebanon boys. Patrick Mason took eighth, Luke Sandmann was 11th and Nate Magari took 13th.
South Royalton 69, Whitcomb 30

SoRo hosted eight games at various levels with proceeds from concession sales, donations from fans and referees fees all being donated in the name of cancer awareness.
“It was about everything but basketball today. We were playing for people who aren’t with us anymore and for the people who are with us and still fighting. It was a great crowd. Just a great environment,” South Royalton coach Pete Howe said.
Nicholas Howe led the Royals with 36 points and is now averaging 26.8 points per game in his senior season. Stephen Paige added nine points and Jacob Hewitt had eight. Gavi Beane had 12 points and Colby Washburn 10 for Whitcomb.
Sharon 63, Websterville 59
Websterville, Vt.
Neither team was able to build a big lead as the game went on. Sharon led 30-28 at halftime and increased the lead to 36-32 into the fourth quarter. Kelley drained three 3-pointers in the final frame on his way to a career high. Sam Knoerlein led the Phoenix with a season-high 30 points. Harvey Kelley added 10 points.
MSJ 73, Windsor 55
Rutland
Jelani Williams had 33 points to pace MSJ. Seth Balch had six 3-pointers and led Windsor with 20 points. Duncan Frazer made four from downtown and had 15 points. It was a one-point game in the fourth quarter before MSJ pulled away, outscoring the visitors 23-5 in the final stanza.

Hayley Mears had a career-high 19 points for Whitchester. Amelia Mattrick added nine points and Toni Turner had seven. The Mountaineers outscored Black River 32-10 in the second half.
Cabot 29, South Royalton 24
South Royalton
Cabot beat SoRo 39-19 to open the regular season on Dec. 10. The Royals led 6-4 after the first quarter in the rematch and were tied at 17-17 through three quarters. Iris Hudson (nine points) and Grace Pease (seven) led SoRo.

Khara Brettell scored unassisted in the first period to give the hosts an early lead. Harwood answered early in the second before Bohen’s goal put the Wasps back in front. Holly Weglarz assisted on the go-ahead goal. Woodstock outshot Harwood 20-9.
Goalie Bridgit Black had eight saves for the Wasps (9-3-1).

Caitlin Gaudet scored for Hartford with assists to both Kendyl Boisvert and Emily Ballou.
Goalie Maggie Gilman had 26 saves for the Canes.
Hanover 4, Trinity 1
Manchester
Despite racking up 22 shots on goal in the first period, Hanover (10-4 overall, 7-3 NHIAA) had been stonewalled by the Trinity goalie until Lehmann’s strike with 1:15 left.
Jake Acker followed with a goal on the first shift of the second period, assisted by Jensen Dodge and Pat Logan, to put Hanover in front, 2-0.
Owen Stadheim followed a Trinity goal with a breakaway goal later in the second period to return the two-goal advantage to Hanover. Logan followed with a slap shot goal in the third period. Will Smith added a pair of assists. Lehmann and Acker each had one assist. Goalie Gabe Loud had 13 saves for the Marauders.

West Lebanon
Gariepy (shorthanded), Nate Chickering and Aaron Damren all scored in the first period to give Lebanon an early 3-0 lead. Gariepy added a pair of goals in the second period to help the hosts to a 6-0 lead.
Ian Garland and Jack Sandmann finished with two goals each. Nate Damren finished with a team-best four assists. Chickering added three assists and Carter Adams had two. Will Forman and Brian Daly each had one assist.
Goalies Jordan Hammond and Andrew Friend combined to make 11 saves for Lebanon.
Hartford 1, Milton 0 (ot)

Jordy Allard and Ben Rouillard picked up assists. Goalie Richie Morrill made 29 saves.
“(Morrill) was our star tonight, he kept us in the game with incredible save after incredible save,” Hartford coach Todd Bebeau said. “This was a nice response from a tough loss last time out. A gutsy, grind-it-out, blue collar win.”

Caleb Palmer won with a pin in the sixth minute at 120 pounds. Gavin Lovely (182 pounds) and Matt Hennig (170 pounds) also won with pins. Tyler Sharron won 12-3 at 160 pounds and Dylan Palmer won 8-2 at 145 pounds.
Hartford Wins
St. Johnsbury, Vt.
Odin Mattern added a 128 in prelims. Dylan Crowley had 123, Alexis Johnston had 102 and Camden LeBrun had 98. Hartford was seeded second heading in the Baker Bowl where they beat third-seeded Oxbow by scores of 123-112, 114-125 and 154-126. The Canes then beat top-seeded Lyndon in 170-161, 101-154 and 143-135.
Windsor Falls to Fourth
Brattleboro, Vt.
Troy McCabe led Windsor in prelims with a 184 and 136. Rayce Gilbert had 159-157 and Brandyn LeBarron had 145-140. The Jacks were seeded third and lost to Springfield in the opening round of Baker by scores of 143-216, 206-164 and 118-171. Host Brattleboro then handed Windsor a loss in the consolation match (113-154, 135-123 and 146-154).
