Denver, Colo. — Timothy Kimball, 34, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, in Denver, as a result of a ruptured aneurysm while skiing at Winter Park, Colo., on Christmas day. Born in Winter Park, Fla., Tim grew up in West Lebanon, N.H., and graduated from Lebanon High School in 2000. He graduated with a bachelor’s in geology from Hamilton College in 2004 and in that year moved to Park City, Utah, to ski. He began his career in San Diego where he made lifelong friends and learned to surf. He moved to Denver and since June 2010 he worked for Level 3 Communications, where he was senior utilities and energy program manager. He was known as an invaluable and dedicated member of the Level 3 community, where his kindness, intelligence, wit, and friendship will be missed.

In Colorado he pursued his passion for outdoor adventures—skiing with friends (some described him as the best skier they knew), climbing mountains above 14,000 feet, and taking his dog Ollie everywhere with him, even to the slopes. He was an intrepid traveller having visited England, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand (where, of course, he skied), Spain, and Scandinavia. His relationship with his recent girlfriend, her daughter, and her family gave him great joy. A cousin observed that some who live to be 100 never know such fullness and happiness.

His family drew comfort from visits by friends to the University of Colorado Hospital, where he spent his last few days, and by messages from his many friends around the country. A friend from San Diego described him as a world-class human being, as good as they get; another wrote that Tim was a brother she wished she’d had. Friends from Lebanon remembered him with photos and memories of competing in almost every sport Lebanon had to offer. A friend from Hamilton wrote that “he was the epitome of kindness, gentleness, and good humor, but I never once saw him show off off about that.” She continued, “You were one of the people who made college feel normal and very safe for me early on. Thank you for being such a good man, a good friend, and a kindred spirit.”

Tim leaves behind his twin brother, Jon Kimball of Newton, Mass.; his parents, Ed and Kathy Kimball of West Lebanon, N.H.; his dog, Ollie; and many more close family members who will miss him immensely.

A celebration of his life will be held at St. Thomas Church, Hanover, N.H., on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Tim’s family is also planning a celebration of his life in Colorado for February.
