Hanover — An American Heart Association event next month aims to raise awareness of cardiovascular diseases and stroke in women.

The annual Go Red For Women Upper Valley/Lake Sunapee event is scheduled for Feb. 10, at 9:30 a.m., at the Hanover Inn. It includes speakers, a choice of three breakout sessions, an auction and lunch. Tickets are $85.

Jillian Weaver, of Littleton, N.H., will talk about the heart problems she experienced while pregnant with her second child. Ezra was the first baby to be born in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit at Tufts Medical Center, according to a news release from the American Heart Association.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Jeffrey Kuvin, section chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s Heart and Vascular Center, where he focuses on preventive cardiology, cardiovascular imaging and adults with congenital heart disease. Prior to coming to Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Kuvin was a professor of medicine at Tufts University and served as associate chief medical officer for graduate medical education at Tufts Medical Center.

The breakout sessions include Strategies for Reducing Cardiovascular Risk, with Dartmouth-Hitchcock cardiology nurse practitioners Margaret Emmons and Susan D’Anna; The Female Heart — What it Continues to Teach Us, with Dr. Bina Ahmed, a Dartmouth-Hitchcock interventional cardiologist and assistant professor at Geisel School of Medicine; and CPR training offered by American Heart Association staff.

The auction items include a cruise for two to the Antarctic Peninsula and a stay for up to 10 people at a camp near Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks.

Local sponsors include Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, Dartmouth College, Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Visiting Nurses & Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire, and several businesses.
