Sunapee — The Selectboard will hold a public hearing on the town’s proposed $7.1 million budget on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the town office meeting room.

The School Board will hold a public hearing on its proposed $12 million school budget for the 2017-18 school year at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the high school music room. The budget represents an increase of $262,000, or 2.2 percent, from the current year, SAU 85 Superintendent Russ Holden said.

If it is approved by voters in March as proposed, Holden estimates a 4.4. percent, or 28 cent, increase in the local education tax to $6.84 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

The only other article on the warrant is to add $75,000 to the Sunapee Middle High School Roof Fund.

The town budget represents an increase of 1.6 percent, Town Manager Donna Nashawaty said. There is another $485,000 in warrant articles to put money into reserve funds, which is what the town does every year. The total tax impact has not been finalized.

The deliberative session, where voters can amend the spending plans, will be on Feb. 6 for the school district and on Feb. 7 for the town. The annual town meeting vote is March 14.
