Little River, S.C. — Sallyann C. Hutchins of Little River passed away at home just hours into Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, under hospice care with her husband John present.

Sally leaves her husband, John Hutchins; her loving daughter, Heather and her husband, Rob Lazar; and most beloved grand-twins, Tori and Will, all of North Andover, Mass. In addition, she leaves her brother, Neal Comstock and wife, Lilian of Guilford, Conn.; and nieces, Kristin Comstock, of Brooklynn, N.Y., Carolyn Montgomery of Madison, Conn.; and nephew, Neal Comstock, of Falls Church, Va. She also leaves other close family members sister in law Sally H. Stott and wife Barbara Reinhold of West Dover, Vt.

Born in Milford, Conn., May 7, 1934, to C. Alfred and Esther Salter Comstock, both deceased. She graduated from Milford High School in 1952 and began work at the Milford Trust Bank where she worked for ten years.

She enjoyed 55 years of a great partnership with husband John that started in 1961 when he first saw her beautiful Duck Pin curve while they were bowling with a local bowling club.

Camping with family and friends provided many of Sally’s favorite times and memories enjoyed in tents, pop-ups, trailers, and fifth wheels around the country. She and John spent some 45 years camping during summer vacations in Mount Dessert, Maine, most at her favorite site, B5, at Mount Dessert Campground.

A great party planner, she hosted many “Over-The-Hill Ski Group” parties and other events. She was an accomplished skier after learning from The Ford Sayer Ski group and through her teaching skiing to many young children in Hanover, N.H.

She was a talented crafts person, including rug braiding, embroidering wall hangings of friends homes and cottages, and quilting. Sally completed over 50 quilts for friends and family including many baby quilts.

Sally’s favorite accomplishment was working with her second grade students, particularly her special needs students from 1982 to 1999. She brought much joy and a sense of accomplishment to many of those young children.

“We’ll miss you Sally more than you know…in fact we’re not sure we can live without you. But as we bid you farewell…, let us also say Happy Trails… Happy Ski trails that is…” A quote from a speech made to Sally on her retirement from 17 years as a Teacher’s Aid at The Bernice A. Ray Elementary School in Hanover, N.H.

As per her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.

Instead of flowers and cards, please donate in Sally’s name to the Ford K. Sayer Memorial Ski Council at P.O. Box 471, Hanover, NH 03755, or, to Amedisys Hospice at 391 Seaboard Street, Unit six, Myrtle Beach, SC, 29577 to provide financial aide to Hospice patients in poor financial straits.
