Barton, Vt. — A 45-year-old Quechee woman was killed Monday night after her car crossed the median of Interstate 91 and slammed into an oncoming vehicle, Vermont State Police said.

Stacy Bissell was driving south on the interstate around 8 p.m. in the Northeast Kingdom town of Barton when her Honda Accord left the southbound lanes, traveled through the median and collided with a northbound Subaru Forester being driven by Richard Farrar, 59, of Newport, Vt., according to a State Police news release.

Bissell, a hospice nurse, was pronounced dead at the scene. Farrar was taken to North Country Hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries, police said.

Police said road conditions were clear at the time, and that the accident is under investigation.
