Hanover, N.H. — Horatio Wood Bacon II passed away on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016. Born in 1923, “Woody” enjoyed a long life, from his birth in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1923 to his death in Hanover.

After graduating from Cornell University in 1945 with a degree in engineering, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during WWII, then married Anne H. Dalzell of Pittsburgh, Pa.

He and Anne raised three children in Concord, Mass.: John A. Bacon of Bradenton, Fla.; H.W. “Sandy” Bacon of Marblehead, Mass. (deceased in 1992); and Heather B. Bagley of South Strafford, Vt. Together he and Anne provided them with a wonderful childhood, and continued their loving support throughout their lives. They found great pleasure in their family and in being an active and important presence in the lives of their seven grandchildren.

As a sales engineer, Woody enjoyed his work developing two manufacturer’s representative businesses, H. Wood Bacon, Inc. in Concord, Mass. and Bacon Technical Industries in Wilder, Vt. — proudly employing his son, Sandy and son-in-law, Doc Bagley.

An avid golfer from a very young age, Woody continued to play golf while at Cornell and later in Concord and Marion Mass. He and Anne retired to Hanover where Woody enjoyed family get-togethers and their Welsh Corgis, as well as golf, tennis, travelling, volunteering at DHMC, reading, and puttering in his yard. Woody and Anne eventually moved to Kendal. Anne died in 2014.

Our special thanks to the nursing staff at Kendal for helping us provide Woody with loving care during the last few years of his life. His death was a peaceful passing, interspersed with exclaimations that made it obvious that he was beginning another wonderful journey.

Per his wishes, there will be no formal memorial service.
