Newport — The Claremont man indicted by a grand jury for burglarizing a Claremont restaurant in August pleaded guilty to two charges in Sullivan County Superior Court on Tuesday and will be sentenced at a later date.

Scott Berry, 34, pleaded guilty to one count of felony burglary and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief for breaking into Dusty’s Cafe on Pleasant Street on the night of Aug. 30 and stealing money from two cash registers.

In court, Assistant County Attorney Justin Hersh recounted the charges, telling Judge Brian Tucker that Berry broke through a wall in the adjoining business, Kleen Laundry, to gain entry into Dusty’s, where he took $119.

Surveillance videos from both businesses led police to Berry.

In addition to the stolen money, Hersh said Berry caused $400 in damages to Kleen and $143 in damages to Dusty’s. Hersh asked the court to order restitution. Berry remains in jail while he awaits sentencing.
