Terre Haute, Ind. — The Dartmouth College men’s cross country team ran to a 25th-place finish on Saturday at the NCAA Division I Championship at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.

Senior Julian Heninger, an all-Ivy League first-teamer, had the top finish for the Big Green, placing 118th out of 251 runners with a time of 31 minutes, 1 second, over the 10-kilometer course.

Northern Arizona won its first national championship in any sport, scoring a meet-low 125 points and placing three runners in the top 20. Stanford (158) and Syracuse (164) filled out the top three.

Dartmouth finished with 621 points.

Villanova’s Patrick Tiernan unseated three-time champion Edward Cheserek, of Oregon, for the individual crown.

“We started the season ranked seventh in our region, and we finished 25th in the nation,” Dartmouth coach Barry Harwick said in a news release. “That’s a great accomplishment for us as a team. Julian ran a great race today to lead us, along with the other four seniors who all finished in the points for us.”

Seniors Nat Adams (31:06) and Matt Herzig (31:09) were 130th and 134th, respectively, for the Big Green. Two other seniors, Daniel Salas (176th, 31:25) and Connor Clark (210th, 31:49), completed the scoring for Dartmouth.
