Democratic congresswoman Annie Kuster has defeated Republican challenger Jim Lawrence to hold onto her seat representing New Hampshire.

The 60-year-old lawyer by training was first elected in 2012. The 2nd Congressional District covers western and northern New Hampshire, including the cities of Concord and Nashua.

The race largely took a back seat to the presidential and U.S. Senate contests. Lawrence never purchased television ads and appeared to be running a shoestring campaign. Kuster, meanwhile, ran ads touting her support for Social Security and work to secure jobs and housing for veterans.

Both Kuster and Lawrence supported their partyโ€™s presidential nominees.
