Hanover, N.H. — Helen M. Nickels, 76, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Hanover-Terrace Healthcare, Hanover, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Lebanon, N.H. on July 20, 1940.

She grew up in Enfield, N.H. and Albany, N.Y. In 1974, she married James D. Nickels and they had many adventures together. Running an Inn in N. Thetford, Vt., flying around in Jim’s Cessna plane, traveling in their camper, or riding with Jim on his Harley, which he mastered well into his mid-80’s. They trained dogs for the blind, were members of the Civil Air Patrol, and active members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, in Bradford, Vt.

Helen kept an immaculately furnished and organized home in Victory, Vt. which was featured in magazines. She was employed by the State of New York, owned and operated an Inn, worked for Jim’s Architectural business, and was an assistant clerk for the N.H. Grafton County Court.

She is survived by her son, Stephen Micare and wife, Lesley of Orford, N.H., stepson, Dean Nickels of Orem, Utah, stepson, David Nickels of Two Rivers, Wisc.; sister, Edith Wheeler of Lebanon, N.H.; and many step-grandchildren.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, James Nickels; parents, Edith and Walter Williams of Albany. N.Y.; brothers, Hugh Williams of Albany and Richard Williams of Bradford.

Service will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11:30 a.m. in the family plot at the South Road West Canaan Cemetery, West Canaan, N.H.
