Hartman, a Northeastern freshman, earned the primary assist on an empty-net goal from the Huskies’ Denisa Krizova with 6 seconds left in the game. Kasidy Anderson broke a scoreless tie in the second period for Northeastern (5-2-1), which also picked up a third-period goal from Halle Silva.
Hartman’s assist gives her four points (two goals, two assist) through the Huskies’ first eight contests.
Robyn Chemago finished with 31 saves for Dartmouth (0-1-0), which was playing its first game for new coach Laura Schuler.
“I am really proud of our effort tonight,” Schuler said. “We had good first and third periods and played against a really good team. Our girls came ready to compete. I saw a lot of good things from a system standpoint and we’re only going to get better.”
The Big Green opens ECAC play on Sunday at home against Harvard.
New York
Spanos’ third goal of the campaign gave Dartmouth a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. The lead didn’t last, however, as Columbia (7-7, 2-3) equalized on a penalty corner at the first-half buzzer. The Lions then poured in four more in the second half for the win.
Despite the Columbia onslaught, sophomore goaltender Hailey Valerio held up well in the Big Green goal, making 15 saves. Dartmouth hosts Holy Cross on Wednesday.
New Haven, Conn.
Doubles partners Taylor Ng and Racquel Lyn posted a pair of wins to advance to the third round, the latter victory coming over Columbia’s Sarah Hu and Renee Ren. Dartmouth freshmen Allison McCann and Chuyang Guan fell in their opening match, 8-4.
In singles, McCann fell to Penn’s Ashley Zhou, 6-2, 6-1. Ng, classmate Jacqueline Crawford, Lyn and Guan all received byes because they are seeded.
Philadelphia
Junior Max Fliegner teamed with freshman Charlie Broom and opened main draw play an 8-2 victory over Connecticut’s Christopher Toner and Arnaud Valentin. Senior Diego Pedraza was Dartmouth’s lone singles competitor, and he dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Princeton’s Peyton Holden.
Cambridge, Mass.
“That was a very hard-fought match,” head coach Gilad Doron said. “I thought we played smart and aggressively for the majority of the game, and it could have gone either way.”
Dartmouth is off until hosting Princeton and Penn next weekend.
