Vermont Tourism Publishes ‘The Vermont Stone Trail’ Guide

Montpelier — The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing has published TheVermont Stone Trail guide to promote the state’s history in quarrying, manufacturing and using granite, marble and slate.

The free guide gives information on historical, artistic, cultural and recreational experiences related to stone such as exploring old quarries or visiting museums. It has descriptions of 95 sites on the trail — from the Bennington Battle Monument State Historic Site to the Rock of Ages Visitor Center in Barre.

Tourism officials said the guide gives visitors a chance to learn about the state’s geology and history and also see the work of modern artists at their studios and galleries. The guide can be found at the state’s 17 Vermont Welcome and Visitor Centers and or can be downloaded online at VermontVacation.com.

Vermont-Based National Guard Brigade Joining 10th Division

Jericho, Vt.— A Vermont-based National Guard infantry brigade is aligning itself with the Army’s 10th Mountain Division.

On Saturday, Guard and active duty Army officials attended a “re-patching ceremony” at the Camp Ethan Allen Training site in Jericho.

The Vermont Guard’s 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is one of only a handful of Guard and Army Reserve units across the country that have been selected for the program that is designed to ensure Guard and Reserve units can be ready for combat faster than under the old system.

The 86th Brigade is going to become the third maneuver brigade of the New York-based 10th Mountain Division.
