Thetford
Regan Covey had other ideas.
Covey, a senior, netted her first hat trick since sophomore year to help the Panthers (9-1) knock off the Lancers, 3-1.
Lamoille’s Lily Loomis scored 10 minutes in, and the visitors maintained a 1-0 halftime advantage after Thetford missed on a penalty kick opportunity.
The Panthers finally began applying sufficient pressure in the second half, and netted the equalizer when freshman Arwen Clayton picked the ball up on the right midfield in space and took a few quick dribbles before releasing a pass over the top of Lamoille’s central defender. Covey was there in stride, taking the ball into the penalty area before lining up her first goal.
A similar play — this time the pass coming from fellow senior Emily Emerson — set up Covey’s second goal before she iced the game with an unassisted goal off of a corner kick with just over five minutes remaining.
Danielle Robinson was solid down the stretch and finished with six saves for Thetford, which is back at home on Tuesday against Lyndon.
