Carmel, Ind. — Powerful off the tee and relentless with the putter, Dustin Johnson didn’t give anyone much of a chance Sunday by closing with a 5-under 67 to win the BMW Championship by three shots and move to the top of the FedEx Cup.

Johnson won for the third time in his last eight tournaments dating to his first major at the U.S. Open, and this might have been his most complete performance.

Paul Casey did just about everything he could, including two early birdies for two-shot swings that erased a four-shot deficit in two holes. Johnson answered with a pair of birdies and he was on his way. Casey made a 25-foot eagle putt on the 15th hole to get within one shot, but that lasted only as long as it took Johnson to make an 18-foot eagle putt on top of him to keep the margin at three shots.

Casey was runner-up in his second straight FedEx Cup playoff event, losing to Rory McIlroy a week ago. His consolation, along with $1,836,000 in those weeks, was the No. 5 seed at the Tour Championship in two weeks. That means he only has to win at East Lake to capture the $10 million bonus.

SoccerDonovan Back, Galaxy Wins

Carson, Calif. — Landon Donovan returned to the LA Galaxy as a second-half substitute Sunday night, ending his 21-month MLS retirement in their 4-2 victory over Orlando City.

Donovan, the top scorer in the history of MLS and the U.S. men’s national team, announced his comeback with the Galaxy three days earlier.

Wearing a No. 26 jersey instead of his usual No. 10, the 34-year-old got a lengthy standing ovation before entering in the 83rd minute of his first game since the 2014 MLS Cup final.

EPL: Chelsea, Swansea Draw

Swansea, Wales — Diego Costa scored his second goal of the game from an overhead kick to earn Chelsea a 2-2 draw at Swansea on Sunday, ending the visitors’ winning start to the English Premier League season.

Costa’s acrobatics in the 81st minute salvaged a point for Chelsea at Liberty Stadium after two defensive blunders in a three-minute span almost gifted Swansea a victory.

HockeyNorth America Wins Tuneup

Montreal — Aaron Ekblad, Johnny Gaudreau and Dylan Larkin each scored twice to help North America beat Europe 7-4 on Sunday night in the second of three exhibition games for both sides leading into the World Cup of Hockey.

Morgan Rielly also scored, and John Gibson made 29 saves for the team made up of Canadian and U.S players 23 or under as of Oct. 1. Marian Gaborik scored twice for Europe.

Thomas Greiss allowed four goals on eight shots before being pulled 10 minutes into the first period. His replacement, former Montreal Canadiens netminder Jaroslav Halak, made 22 saves on 24 shots.

North America also beat Europe 4-0 on Thursday night in Quebec City. North America captain Connor McDavid finished without a point for the second straight game.
