Dwyer, a sophomore forward, scored her first two varsity goals in the Hurricanes’ 2-0 win over visiting Woodstock at Maxfield Sports Complex on Wednesday.
It was the first win of the season for Hartford (1-0-1) and first loss of the year for the Wasps (1-1-0).
Both of Dwyer’s scores came in the first half, the first in the 15th minute after an initial Canes shot off the cross bar resulted in a scrum out front. It squirted out to Dwyer, who took advantage of a wide open look.
Hartford’s second goal was much more deliberate. Having emphasized restarts in practice as of late, Hartford’s Maddie Koff delivered a lofting feed on a corner kick to set up another score for the sophomore.
“She’s actually a pretty even-keeled kid, so she wasn’t doing cartwheels like I would have been,” Hurricanes coach Jeff Acker said of Dwyer registering her first two career goals. “That said, she was pretty excited. It was pretty fun.”
