Lancaster Fair president Edward Samson said Saturday the girl was injured when she was thrown from the horse around 4 p.m. Friday. He said she was participating in the White Mountains Riding Club Horse Show at the fair.
The girl was taken to a hospital where she later died. Her name and age have not been released.
Last year, a Vermont man and his 6-year-old daughter were killed when a storm blew through the fairgrounds, toppling a tent during a circus show. Fifty other people were hurt.

More than 275 people who work with children and families are expected to attend the daylong conference Wednesday in Killington. It’s aimed at strengthening collaborations to support families affected by substance abuse, including opioid drugs.
The event — hosted by the Vermont Health Department — will include keynote presentations and workshops.
Botticelli, who is in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder, will give a talk called a 21st century approach to drug policy and public health. Dr. Ira Chasnoff, a professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, will discuss the mystery of risk: drugs, alcohol, pregnancy and the vulnerable child.

Officials say 41-year-old Anne Ellis, of Newmarket, N.H., was hiking with friends and family when she slipped and fell on the Carter-Moriah Trail at around 2:20 p.m. Saturday. She suffered a lower-leg injury.
Rescue crews began carrying Ellis down the mountain just before 8 p.m. They arrived at the trailhead at about midnight. Ellis was taken to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin for treatment.
Montpelier
The first clinic is intended for people who have had little to no fishing experience. It takes place Tuesday at the Shelburne Bay Fishing Access Area in Shelburne from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and covers the basics of fishing.
The second clinic — an introduction to trout fishing — will be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waterbury Public Library and the Winooski River in Waterbury.
The Fish & Wildlife Department will provide fishing equipment to use or participants in either clinic may bring their own.
