Newport Town Manager Resigns

Newport  — The Selectboard has accepted the resignation of Town Manager Shane O’Keefe, board chairman Jeff Kessler said in an email Thursday evening.

O’Keefe resigned for personal reasons, Kessler said.

O’Keefe, a Walpole, N.H., resident, was hired last July. The board has appointed Finance Director Paul Brown as interim manager. Brown served a dual role as finance director and town manager for three years after Town Manager Dan O’Neil retired. Eventually Brown stepped down as town manager when the board hired O’Keefe, who previously served as town administrator in Swanzey, N.H.

Vt. Teens Lead All States In Vaccination Rates

Vermont’s teenagers are more likely to have been vaccinated than their national counterparts, according to a new survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Vermont Department of Health released results from the federal agency on Wednesday showing that 96 percent of Vermont teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 are fully vaccinated against chickenpox, compared with 83 percent nationally.

Ninety-nine percent of Vermont teens had at least one of their two shots to vaccinate against chickenpox in 2015 — the highest rate in the country — and 97 percent were vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella, according to the CDC.

But the immunization program manager for the Vermont Department of Health said only 54 percent of girls and 41 percent of boys had received the full vaccination against human papillomavirus, or HPV, a sexually transmitted virus that can lead to cancer.
