Starlight, adoptable from River Valley Animal Protection League

Star light, star bright,

First star I see tonight

I wish I may, I wish I might

Have this wish …

Meet Starlight. She is a large, tortoiseshell manx kitty, and River Valley Animal Protection League is wishing to find a special person to give Starlight a home. We are also interested in potentially finding an experienced foster home for her, because Starlight has a very hard time in our shelter environment. She does not get along with other cats, has a low stress threshold, and feels much better in larger spaces than those that are available most of the time at the shelter.

In the meantime, we are getting to know this complex kitty to help us figure out how to help her feel comfortable and how to address her specific needs. We’ve found that she enjoys people and likes to be petted on the head and face. She is vocal about inviting volunteers to come into her room and sort of just hang out. Being in a private room is exceptionally helpful in reducing her stress level and her ability to entertain company, apparently. So, it is clear that she likes us, but it is also clear that there are things she doesn’t appreciate very much, like having her back end touched. Brushing is also probably a bad idea.

We’re working on expanding the list of likes and not likes. We welcome experienced fosterers and cat owners, especially those who have had manx cats in the past, who may be interested in working with Starlight and helping us to bring out her shine.

Starlight is up for adoption from the River Valley Animal Protection League, located at 60 Cummings Ave. in Charlestown and open to the public Mondays, 4-7 p.m., and Saturdays, 1-4 p.m., or by appointment by calling 603-826-3061. The River Valley Animal Protection League is also on Facebook.

Ut-Oh, adoptable from the Sullivan County Humane Society

“I am 6-year-old Ut-Oh. I was a stray hanging around an apartment building for months. The humane society received multiple calls about me but never found me on their many visits. Then one night, some of the residents decided that I needed to get off the streets since I was so horribly matted. They called the humane society and then kept me around by bribing me with Cat Greenies.

“When I saw the other people show up, I started to walk away but then a handful of greenies brought me back — I am a sucker for a good treat! So, here I am. Please give me a life full of Greenies!

“I am vet checked, neutered, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped and FIV/FeLV negative-and even had a dental to remove my bad teeth!”

Ut-Oh is up for adoption from Sullivan County Humane Society, located at 145 Broad St. in Claremont. Please see hours on the humane society website at www.sullivancountyhumanesociety.org and Facebook. Call 603-542-3277 or email sullivanhumane@hotmail.com.

Mist, adoptable from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society

“Hi! My name is Mist and I’m a 10-year-old neutered male cat looking for an awesome home.

“I came to Lucy Mackenzie with my buddy Midnight when it was discovered that a human in our home was allergic to cats. It was a sad day for all of us, but things began looking up soon after we arrived here. I have begun receiving treatment for my diabetes, something that went undetected in my former home. I feel and look so much better now that it’s under control.

“I’m an incredibly loving cat that has a small special need requirement, but if you can take care of me and my diabetes, I promise to bring lots of love and laughter to your life. I’m playful, huggable, and kinda cute, even if I do say so myself! If you’ve been looking to give a fun-loving cat a second chance in life, stop in and meet me today.”

Mist is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.

Joe Black, adoptable from Potter’s Angels Rescue

Meet, Joe Black! Joe Black is joyful, playful and puppy-like, well-behaved and shy. No one invested time in training Joe Black prior to his rescue. So now he is learning basic commands and knows “sit.”

Joe Black finds walking on leash a little scary so he wears a harness. He is tentative of people at first, but responds quickly to human kindness. Joe Black doesn’t live with children we believe he would be fine with kids age 8 and older. Born to be a pack member, Joe Black should live in a home with other social dogs. Joe Black is very calm, easy-going and sweet with other dogs. He will engage in cordial play. He is gentle and takes social cues and canine corrections, well. He gets along with dogs of all ages, sizes and gender. Joe Black eats right along-side the other dogs without incident. While untested, we believe he would get along well with cats and other animals.

Joe Black is housetrained and non-destructive. He is crated when left alone, but would probably be fine with free roam. Still need a reason to meet Joe Black? Well, we are told that he runs around like a newborn foal, not yet used to his legs.

Joe Black is a 45lb 2 year-old male Shar Pei mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

Joe Black is up for adoption from Potter’s Angels Rescue, based in East Randolph. Submit an application here. Potter’s Angels is also on Facebook.

Einstein, adoptable from the Upper Valley Humane Society

“Hi, my name is Einstein! I’m a 3-year-old mix. I am as smart as my name and as pure as my white coat. All I want is a home where I can chew on treats and have someone to love me.

“I am a great walker and listener! If you want a friend to share secrets with, I am your man. If you’re looking for a smart, loyal guy, come and get me today! I will light up your world.

“My ‘meet your match’ canine personality is wallflower: Shy yet charming canine searching for a patient owner with relaxed lifestyle. Looking for a gentle guidance to help me out of my shell. Treat me sweet and kind and I’ll blossom.”

Einstein is up for adoption from the Upper Valley Humane Society, located at 300 Old Route 10 in Enfield and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Upper Valley Humane Society is also on Facebook and Instagram and can be reached at 603-448-6888.
