Smokey Joe, adoptable from the Upper Valley Humane Society

“Hi! My name is Smokey Joe, and I’m the sweetest kitty you’ll ever meet.

“I love attention and I’ll let you know when I want some! I like to play with toys, but I’d rather spend time with my human friends. I’m a pretty easy-going guy who’s just looking for someone to love. I’m very easy to handle since I don’t mind being picked up or petted. I’ve done well with other cats I’ve met here, and might do well with dogs pending introductions.

“If you’d like a sweet, social kitty, think about choosing me!”

Smokey Joe is up for adoption from the Upper Valley Humane Society, located at 300 Old Route 10 in Enfield and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Upper Valley Humane Society is also on Facebook and Instagram and can be reached at 603-448-6888.

Darby, adoptable from the Sullivan County Humane Society

“I am 10-year-old Darby. I was found as a stray on the streets. Sadly, my mouth was horrible. I had severe dental disease but the nice people at the humane society took care of that and now I am all good! Although I hve very few teeth left, I am able to eat just fine.

“I can seem a little standoffish at first but I am an absolute sweetheart. I am really hoping to find a family that will keep me safe so I never have to fend for myself again.

“I am vet checked, neutered, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped and FIV/FeLV negative!”

Darby is up for adoption from Sullivan County Humane Society, located at 145 Broad St. in Claremont. Please see hours on the humane society website at www.sullivancountyhumanesociety.org and Facebook. Call 603-542-3277 or email sullivanhumane@hotmail.com.

Adoptables-20160728-LucyMac-Robin.JPG
Robin, adoptable from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society

“Hi! My name’s Robin and I’m a 2-year-old neutered male mixed breed dog that came to Lucy Mackenzie as a stray.

“I’m a fun-loving active fella that has tons of potential, and lots of love to give! Since I’ve been here, we’ve spent lots of time working on basic behaviors, like how to walk on a leash, how to sit, and stay. I’d say I’m doing remarkably well. I love to play and to have the chance to zoom around. I’d be the only animal in my ideal home, and my human would be committed towards continuing my training with me.

“Like I said, I’ve come a long way and I’m most certainly a quick learner. All I really need in life is a second chance and somebody to call my own. If you’ve been looking for a new best friend, stop in and meet me today!

Robin is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.

Adoptables-20160728-RVAPL-Cherry.jpg
Cherry, adoptable from River Valley Animal Protection League

This week we would like to remind readers that Cherry is still available. She is an older girl, with rabbit soft gray fur, bright green eyes, and an admittedly grating “hello!” meow. Cherry has especially won the hearts of our male volunteers, many of whom make sure to spend a little extra time with her during their shifts. She loves to cuddle on laps, and shows it by kneading on her visitors and drooling all over the place. (Don’t worry, her teeth are great.)

Cherry is also a rather sedentary cat, finding her favorite places and spending most of her time there, she is rarely underfoot. We all would like to see Cherry go to a home with someone who has plenty of time to share with her. She would make a wonderful companion for an older person, or perhaps an individual with mobility impairment. A specific bonus that wheelchair users can offer: Cherry doesn’t particularly enjoy being picked up and carried, but riding on a lap would likely be much more comfortable for her.

This sweet old lady cat has plenty of happiness left to share. Come in and visit, and consider taking her home.

Cherry is up for adoption from the River Valley Animal Protection League, located at 60 Cummings Ave. in Charlestown and open to the public Mondays, 4-7 p.m., and Saturdays, 1-4 p.m., or by appointment by calling 603-826-3061. The River Valley Animal Protection League is also on Facebook.
