“Hi! My name is Griswold. I’m a 6-year-old handsome mix. I’m a sweet guy who needs nothing but love in my life. Can you give me that?
“Remember the Griswolds from the family vacation movies? Well, I can be just as goofy as them! I’m looking for a companion to spend my life with. I love being with people. I’d prefer to live with older children. I might be OK with another dog, pending introductions.
“My canine personality is goofball: I’m a fun-loving, happy-all-the-time, glass-is-half-full kind of dog looking for someone who loves to laugh and play around. You must have a great sense of humor and some time to spend with me. I’m on a mission to please you.”
Griswold is up for adoption from the Upper Valley Humane Society, located at 300 Old Route 10 in Enfield and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Upper Valley Humane Society is also on Facebook and Instagram and can be reached at 603-448-6888.

“Problem cats” at shelters come in several different forms. Some have behavior problems, some have health conditions and some are elderly. These sorts of things can make it difficult to find homes for.
Sophie is a problem cat of a different kind. She is simply unassuming. While other cats are meowing and reaching out of their cages to catch your attention, rubbing against the walls, and wrestling with toys, Sophie will be quietly sitting nearby. While her friends may come running to jump in your lap, see if you have treats, or be the first to get petted, Sophie is likely watching from across the room, waiting her turn, waiting for someone to notice. She would like to be picked up, or have a nice chin scratch. She would like a treat. But Sophie will likely be one of the last cats to be chosen, just because it’s easy to& miss her — and that means missing out on a great opportunity.
Sophie is a plump, big girl who will love to greet you and your guests without getting underfoot. She will likely wait until you’ve changed out of your work clothes to cuddle and bestow you with a nice layer of cat fur. Chances are you will be able to feed her without listening to any impatient stories of starvation, maybe even if it is wet food. Best of all, when you need a friend, Sophie will be right there, waiting for you.
Don’t miss out on Sophie, or other cats like her. When you visit our shelter, or any other, ask about the cats who have been there the longest and why. You might find out that some “problem cats” have a lot to offer.
Sophie is up for adoption from the River Valley Animal Protection League, located at 60 Cummings Ave. in Charlestown and open to the public Mondays, 4-7 p.m., and Saturdays, 1-4 p.m., or by appointment by calling 603-826-3061. The River Valley Animal Protection League is also on Facebook.

“Hi! My name is Killians and I’m a 7-year-old neutered male kitty looking for a home. I came to Lucy Mackenzie when my family was moving and couldn’t take me with them. I’ve done well since I’ve been here, though, even getting some medical concerns under control with a special diet food, which any of the people here would be happy to discuss with you.
“I’m an incredibly gentle and loving boy, that would be content living as an only cat or with another kind cat. I would do best in a mostly quiet household, but would love the opportunity to meet anybody who was interested in meeting me. If you’ve been looking for a loving and gentle feline to add lots of joy to your life, stop in and meet me today!”
Killians is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.

“I am adorable 4-month-old kitten Emerald! My sister, Peridot, and I both lost an eye to a horrible eye infection when we were just babies. We had surgeries that removed our bad eyes — one for Peridot and one for me — and are 100 percent fine now. We do not let the loss of an eye slow us down — we are still super playful and sweet.
“We, and four other adorable kittens, are looking for our fur-ever homes! We are all spayed/neutered, treated for fleas and worms, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and microchipped.”
Emerald is up for adoption from Sullivan County Humane Society, located at 145 Broad St. in Claremont. Please see hours on the humane society website at www.sullivancountyhumanesociety.org and Facebook. Call 603-542-3277 or email sullivanhumane@hotmail.com.

Here comes … (the) Champ!
Champ is a lovable boy who adores a good snuggle on your lap. He is both crate trained and house broken. Champ has been working on mastering walking with a leash and is doing great. He is a pretty mellow boy.
Champ doesn’t mind other dogs, but could happily live without them. Champ also doesn’t respond to cats.
Champ is still new to having a loving home so he gets a little nervous around new people. Champ is still learning about children and he can be a little fearful of all the energy and intensity they may have so a home with older or no children would be best.
Champ is an 11-lb 7-year-old short-haired Chihuahua. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.
Champ is up for adoption from Potter’s Angels Rescue, based in East Randolph. Submit an application here. Potter’s Angels is also on Facebook.
