Lake Placid, n.y. — Thetford’s Aiden Cudhea and Lyme’s Evan Nichols came away with top honors on both hills on July 3 at the Lake Placid Lions Club’s annual ski jumping meet at the Olympic Jumping Complex.

Starting with the K20 small hill, Cudhea, 14, launched two 18.5-meter jumps with perfect style scores to win the U18 boys division. Nichols followed in second with leaps of 17.5 and 16 meters.

The Andover Outing Club’s Henry Johnston and Matthew Reynolds and the Lebanon Outing Club’s Cameron Summerton all had jumps in the 15-meter range. After accounting for style points, Johnstone took fifth place, Summerton was seventh and Reynolds took eighth.

Ford Sayre’s Cameron Forbush took third in the U12 boys competition, missing a win by just five points. FSSC’s Caroline Harrison tied for second among U12 girls with jumps of 12.5 and 13 meters. Ford Sayre’s Charlie Forbush was third in the U10 boys meet.

Cudhea added a second U18 boys win on the K48 ramp, throwing down three solid jumps with a tournament-best of 47 meters. Nichols also did well in runner-up fashion, going 42.5 meters, and then outskied the rest of the field to go home with the Nordic combined meet crown.

Johnstone grabbed fourth on the K48 ramp, and Cameron Forbush left with a third-place finish in the U12 boys group.

The meet is normally held in the winter, but poor snowfall forced organizers to postpone the tournament until summer. Doing so allowed competitors from as far away as Madison, Wis., and Chicago to come to the Adironadacks to jump.

Cudhea and Nichols, who also made their first training leaps off the large K90 hill, were members of the Eastern Regional Junior National team last winter. Both will remain in Lake Placid for the new few weeks for further training before embarking for Park City, Utah, later in the summer for the Springer Invitational Tournee.
