Eugene, Ore. — Seven-time NCAA champion Abbey D’Agostino, a 2014 Dartmouth College graduate, moved one step closer to the Rio Olympics on Thursday when she advanced to the women’s 5,000-meter finals at the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials.

D’Agostino, who won six track national titles and one cross country crown with the Big Green, placed sixth Thursday with a time of 15 minutes, 29.66 seconds at Hayward Field. She and 15 other runners advanced to Sunday’s final, where the top three will quality for next month’s Olympics in Rio.

Sunday’s race is set to begin at 7:28 p.m. and will be carried live on NBC.

In 2012, D’Agostino finished fourth in the 5,000, missing the London Games by less than a second.

Wheating Reaches Final

Eugene, Ore. — Two-time Olympian Andrew Wheating, of Norwich, kept his bid for a third Olympics alive when he advanced to the men’s 1,500 final on Thursday.

Wheating, a Kimball Union Academy and University of Oregon graduate, was third in his qualifying heat in 3:42.41.

The finals are Sunday.

Kensington, n.h. — Despite managing just three hits, the Lebanon U10 All-Stars recorded an 8-6 win over Exeter on Wednesday night to stay alive at the New Hampshire Cal Ripken state tournament.

Lebanon’s patience at the plate paid off in the form of multiple walks along with seven errors by the Exeter defense. Lebanon scored four times in the first inning after Cayden Van Dolah reached on an error; Van Dolah, Dawson Bates and Dominic Petkus came home on miscues, and Zach Gauet added the fourth run on a passed ball. Bates earned the win on the mound, which Hewett secured with a sixth-inning save completed when he retired the potential winning run at the plate.

Lebanon was due to meet Dover on Thursday night for the right to meet Nashua for the state title tonight.

Keene, n.h. — CRFC Keene (7-0) scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat Norwich Touchline (8-1) in a battle of undefeated teams.

Touchline’s Peter Burnham scored in the second half, assisted by Nico Mayo-Pushee, before Keene’s rally.

Touchline keeper Andrew Enelow made seven saves behind the defense of Adam Blackburn, Noah Pikelny and Brendan Brigham and center/midfielder Dillon Bradley. Norwich Touchline greets Upper Valley United tonight.

College SportsDartmouth Moves Radio Coverage

Hanover — After years of being affiliated with its college station, the Dartmouth College athletic department has agreed on a three-year contract to have football, men’s and women’s hockey and men’s and women’s basketball games carried on stations owned by Lebanon-based Great Eastern Radio.

Football and hockey will air on WTSL 94.5 FM and 1400 AM along with WTSV 1230 AM. Another station, WWOD 93.9 FM and 96.3 FM, will carry men’s and women’s basketball.

Dartmouth has traditionally had its football and hockey games on carried on the college’s student-run station, WFRD 99.3 FM.

Basketball hasn’t been carried on Upper Valley radio for several years.
