WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Upper Valley Aquatic Center will have a new leader this fall.
Wendy Bordeau will start her new role as executive director Oct. 1, according to the White River Junction-based nonprofit organization. Also known as UVAC, the facility offers swim lessons and competitive teams, a gym, fitness classes and children’s programs, among other activities. She will replace Joe Major, who has led the Upper Valley Aquatic Center since 2018.
“UVAC is many things to many people, but above all, we are a community who cares about and for one another,” Bordeau said in a statement. “I am thrilled to take the reins from Joe and lead UVAC forward.”
Major, who is currently running for re-election for the Vermont State Senate, will continue to be employed by UVAC as a marketing and sales consultant, according to the organization. In his new role, Major will focus on development, community partnerships and fundraising, among other topics.
“UVAC is an extraordinary community asset, and I am incredibly proud of what our staff, board, members, volunteers, and community partners have accomplished together,” Major said in a statement. “I am equally excited about the future and confident that Wendy is the right person to lead this organization into its next chapter.”
Bordeau, of Quechee, has been UVAC’s assistant executive director since this March, according to a staff biography on the organization’s website. She previously worked at Dartmouth College as a senior associate athletics director.
“Bordeau brings extensive experience in athletics, recreation, administration, and organizational leadership to the position,” a press release stated.
She was also previously the head coach of Dartmouth women’s crew, according to a biography on Dartmouth’s website.
