Chicago
In the first game, Brett Wallace hit a three-run homer in San Diego’s four-run seventh inning, and the Padres stopped the Cubs’ eight-game win streak with a 7-4 victory.
Pomeranz (4-3) allowed just three hits and walked three. No Chicago runner advanced past second base while the left-hander was on the mound.

Down by four runs six batters in, New York clawed back to 4-3 against Yordano Ventura before Lorenzo Cain hit a two-run single in the sixth against reliever Nick Goody.

Brandon Belt was hit by a pitch to open the inning and Denard Span’s bunt attempt was mishandled at second. Following a wild pitch, Joe Panik was walked intentionally.

Minneapolis
Seattle
Miami
Atlanta
Cincinnati
Six batters were hit — four Pirates, two Reds — as the teams extended their history of plunkings. Over the last four seasons, the Reds have hit 43 Pirates batters (10 this season) and the Pirates have hit 41 Reds (five this season).
Washington
Harper decided to appeal the penalty and remains eligible to play until the process is finished, the commissioner’s office sai.
During the bottom of the ninth inning of Washington’s 5-4 victory over Detroit on Monday night, Harper was in the dugout when he was ejected by plate umpire Brian Knight after Nationals batter Danny Espinosa was called out on strikes.
When someone is tossed from a game in the majors, he is required to leave the dugout.
Moments after the ejection, pinch-hitter Clint Robinson connected for a game-winning home run, and Harper ran onto the field with his teammates to celebrate. Harper pointed toward Knight and cursed at the umpire.
Atlanta
Chacin, 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in five starts this season, had been scheduled to start for the Braves on Wednesday night against the Phillies.
The Braves have recalled right-hander Williams Perez, 24, from Triple-A Gwinnett to make the start.
Perez, 24, joins Aaron Blair, Mike Foltynewicz and Matt Wisler as Atlanta starting pitchers who are 24 or younger. Julio Teheran, in his fourth full season, is the veteran of the staff but is only 25.
The Braves removed another veteran from the rotation last month when Bud Norris was shifted to the bullpen.
The youth movement is expected to continue this season for the struggling Braves (7-23), who took a five-game losing streak into Wednesday night’s game.
