South Burlington, Vt. — The annual Iverson Relays at South Burlington High School are intended to highlight relay events, yet it was thrower Giovanna Carlson who stood out most for the Oxbow girls track and field team.

With the Olympians the lone Vermont Division III team in an 11-school field, Carlson placed third in the discus and fourth in the shot put to help the O’s place eighth.

Carlson’s discus hurl sailed 90 feet, 5 inches, 6-10 farther than fourth-place Megan Kronoff, of Burlington. The senior’s 30-10 shot put heave edged Amila Semic, also of Burlington, by two inches.

With a number of extra relay events inserted into the meet, Oxbow’s 4×100-meter shuttle hurdles team of Emily Carson, Hannah Giesing, Izzy Giesing and Brittany Hodges was fifth in 1:18.75.

On the boys side, the O’s Jon Puffer, Willy Moreno and Tim Hodges combined for third place in the pole vault relay event.

Oxbow also earned sixth place in the long jump relay (Moreno, Skyler Ladd, Bryceson Craig) and the 4×100 (Nathan Longmoore, Tyrus Rosten, Craig, Hodges).

BaseballInterLakes 6, Mascoma 3

Enfield — The Royals fell to 2-7. Oscar Brueckner pitched all seven innings for Mascoma, surrendering nine hits and five earned runs with three strikeouts and just one walk — though he hit four Laker batters.

Brueckner was also 3-for-4 at the plate, while Wyatt Wheeler and Will Morrison had RBI singles during Mascoma’s three-run third.

The Royals play at Newfound on Monday.

Lamoille 9, Thetford 2

Thetford — The Lancers sent the Panthers to 2-6.

Connor Brown (RBI) and Jack Sweet (double, run) helped out at the plate for Thetford, while starting pitcher Alden Nichols pitched 4 innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs with four strikeouts and two walks. The Panthers host Blue Mountain on Monday.

St. Thomas 2, Hanover 1

Dover, n.h. — All three of the game’s runs came in the fifth inning, the Saints responding with a pair in the bottom half after Hanover had gone up 1-0.

Will Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Marauders, driving in Charlie Goodrich.

Moises Celaya (five hits, two earned runs), struck out five and walked three for Hanover.

The Marauders (3-4) host Milford on Monday.

U-32 3, Hartford 1

East Montpelier, Vt. — The Hurricanes (6-2) lost for the first time since opening day at Rutland.

Hartford’s Jacob Perkins was 3-for-3 with an RBI, while teammate Brandon Gaudette added a hit and a walk. Pitcher Dylan Spencer allowed three runs, two earned, and six over hits over six innings, while striking out seven and walking one.

Hartford hosts Burr & Burton on Tuesday.

SoftballFair Haven 20, Windsor 4 (6)

Windsor — The Slaters had 20 hits and scored 10 unearned runs while dropping the Yellowjackets to 0-8.

“We’re still having too may four- and five-out innings,” Windsor coach Phil Hathorn said. “However, we did make better decisions with the ball today.”

Naila Thompson had two hits and a run, Emily Williams had a hit and a run and Becca Rumrill had an RBI triple and a run scored for the Jacks.

Rumrill walked eight and struck out three for Windsor, which visits Stevens on Monday.

InterLakes 16, Mascoma 7

Enfield — The Royals (0-9) trailed by only two runs before giving up seven runs — only one of them earned — in the sixth inning.

“We actually played a great game defensively, except for that one bad inning,” Royals coach Billy O’Connell said. “They’ve come a long way since the beginning of the season.”

Katie Ferland went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and Emma Mulherin was 2-for-3 with a single and double for the Royals.

Raeleigh Mansur tossed a complete game, allowing eight hits, striking out five and walking two.

Mascoma visits Newfound on Monday.

Randolph 4Whitcomb-Rochester 2

Randolph — Kiara Nonemacher walked none in a complete game and Sierra Rikert went 2-for-3 with a home run as the Galloping Ghosts improved to 5-3.

Pitcher Laura Vaillancourt homered and Shannon Ludwig had an RBI double for the Mountaineers (2-6). Whitchester also received strong defensive play from shortstop Lindsey LaPerle, who had six unassisted outs and was turned a pair of double plays.

Whitchester hosts Black River on Monday.

U-32 14, Hartford 13

East Montpelier, Vt. — The Hurricanes suffered a heart-breaker against the Raiders.

U-32 scored three times in the bottom of the seventh for the win, plating the tying and winning runs with two outs.

Brooke Hurd had four RBIs for Hartford, three of them coming on a home run, and Kelsey Mason had a pair of hits and two RBIs for the Canes.

Rachel Loseby (2 innings, three hits, no walks, three strikeouts) took the loss in the circle for Hartford, which is back on the road Monday at Bellows Falls.

Holderness 11, KUA 9

Meriden — Kayleigh Coombs’ sixth-inning grand slam wasn’t quite enough for the Wildcats (1-5).

Holderness held leads of 9-0 and 11-3 before Coombs’ two-out, two- strike blast over the left field fence make it 11-7.

Caitlin Beneat hit her fifth single of the day in the seventh to pull the Wildcats within two runs.

Beneat finished 5-for-5 while Ashley Smith, Catherine Beaupre, and Chloe Rourke-Nicholas all had two hits for Kimball Union.

Boys LacrosseGilford 9, Stevens 1

Claremont — The Cardinals fell to 1-6 with the loss to the Golden Eagles on Friday.

Donovan Putnam scored the lone goal for Stevens, unassisted, while goalies Scott Foisy (seven saves) and Tess Whitney combined for 11 stops.

Stevens goes on the road Monday, visiting Laconia.

Boys RugbyKUA 29, Portland (Maine) 29

Portland, Maine — Kimball Union rallied after trailing 22-5, overcoming a 12-point deficit in the final minute to secure a tie with Portland.

With Kimball Union awarded a penalty at the end of regulation, Asher Pollack scored the tying try from 30 yards out; the conversion kick failed to keep the game deadlocked.

Will Robbins-Cole had two tries and two conversions, including a 103-yard scamper off a turnover to pull the Wildcats within 29-24 with less than a minute remaining.

Henry Hamilton, of Unity, also had a try for Kimball Union.

The Wildcats host Kearsarge RFC on Wednesday.

College TrackBig Green Men Fourth at Heps

Princeton, n.j. — The Dartmouth men’s track team is in fourth place after one day at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Princeton’s Weaver Stadium.

The Big Green have 15 points behind co-leaders Cornell and Princeton (43), Princeton (43) and Pennsylvania (29).

In the final event of the day, junior Daniel Salas ran a 29:43.54 in the 10,000 meters race. That finish earned Salas and Dartmouth four points.

Corey Muggler was sixth in the long jump to earn one point. The junior’s best mark of the day was a 7.02 meters and came on his first of six jumps.

The hammer throw saw Colin Minor earn four points with a fourth-place finish. Minor’s best toss of the afternoon came on his fifth attempt (61.16).

Junior Max Cosculluela cleared five meters in the pole vault to earn points for Dartmouth.

The Dartmouth women are in fifth place thanks to its 13 points. Princeton (48), Harvard (37), Cornell (28) and Brown (22) are the four teams ahead in the standings after the first day.

Dartmouth earned seven points in the pole vault as Kaitlin McCallum was third overall (six points) and Stephanie Brown claimed sixth (one).

Melissa Dunham was the only other Dartmouth athlete to register a point in a field event, as she was sixth in the discus.

Reid Watson claimed third in the 10,000 meters (34:55.52).
