Woodstock — The Woodstock High boys lacrosse team built a three-goal lead in the fourth quarter, including the eventual game-winner from Daniel Robinson with five minutes remaining, and the Wasps held on for a 10-9 win over Mount Anthony on Wednesday at Woodstock Union High School.

Mount Anthony pulled to within one goal in the fourth quarter. Coleman McKaig finished with 10 saves.

Cullen McCarthy and Jackson Wood each scored three goals for Woodstock, with Wood adding an assist. Lucas Piconi added a goal and one assist, Patrick Bald netted a goal and Jack Arthur contributed an assist.

Woodstock (2-4) meets Brattleboro on Friday.

Hartford 7, U-32 4

East Montpelier, Vt. — Nick Dorain scored four goals as the Hurricanes outmatched the Raiders.

Andrew Daley, Adam Parker and Reece Thompson provided the Hurricanes’ other scores. Ben Rouillard had three assists, Nate Lemieux had two assists, and Thompson and Nick Porter each had one helper. Chris Dorain made 10 saves.

Hartford (3-2) travels to Montpelier on Friday.

Essex 10, Hanover 9 (ot)

Essex Junction, Vt. — The Marauders erased a one-goal deficit by the end of the third quarter to force overtime, but Essex’ scored 3:09 into the extra session to drop Hanover.

Brian Seltzer scored five goals for Hanover, Reed Winter added two goals and two assists, and George Geraghty added a goal and four assists. Chuck Reichert also scored a goal, and Graham Penfield had one helper. Zander Lingelbach-Pierce made seven saves.

Hanover was ahead 5-1 in the first half and up 7-4 just after halftime. But Essex was resilient on turnovers, keeping the Marauders pinned in their defensive zone.

“We were just unable to pick up a ground ball in transition,” said Hanover head coach Ryan Gardner.

Hanover (3-5) hosts Manchester Memorial today.

Plymouth 13, Lebanon 4

Plymouth, n.h. — The Raiders fell behind, 3-1, in the first quarter and couldn’t keep up, dropping to the .500 mark.

Nate Damren scored two goals and one assist, and Jordan Hammond added one goal and one assist. Jeremy Corbin scored a goal, and Aaron Damren rounded out the Lebanon scoring with an assist. Bryan Albright made seven saves.

“This was a game of mistakes,” said Lebanon head coach Lochrane Gary. “We were down (3-1) in the first and had opportunities to take control, but we couldn’t overcome costly lost possessions.”

Lebanon (3-3) hosts Pelham on Friday.

Belmont 11, Stevens 8

Claremont — Cardinals senior goaltender Scott Foisy made 17 saves and Donovan Putnam scored six goals as Stevens took its fifth loss.

Nick Eagan and Max Salls each added goals of their own for Stevens.

“(Foisy) has really impressed us,” said Stevens head coach Jed Hart. “We had an injury, and we needed him to step up. He’s done that.”

The Cardinals (1-5) host Gilford on Friday.

Kimball Union 14, Gould 4

Meriden — The Wildcats gave up the first goal and responded with 11 of their own for their fifth win of the year.

Mike Lombardi led KUA with four goals and two assists. The Wildcats (5-7) meet Vermont Academy on Friday.

Girls Lacrosse GMVS 12, Hartford 6

Waitsfield, Vt. — Caitlin Gaudet scored two goals and added one assist for Hartford.

Amanda Locke scored a goal and added two assists, and Morgan Pero had a goal and one helper. Emily Ruffing and Michaela Ricker each scored a goal, and Kaylee Williams had one assist. Freshman Emma Libbey led the defense with three ground balls and four caused turnovers. Jaden Sanborn and Victoria Stevenson split time in goal and made a combined nine saves.

Hartford (1-6) will travel to Randolph on Monday in a rematch of Tuesday’s 11-10 victory over the Galloping Ghosts.

Softball Otter Valley 15, Hartford 6

Brandon, Vt. — Kayla Lancor and Kelsey Mason each had two hits and an RBI as the Hurricanes suffered their first loss of the season.

Brooke Hurd was credited with the loss. Hartford (5-1) will host Brattleboro on Friday.

Girls Tennis Hanover 9, Pembroke 0

Hanover — The Marauders swept all games except for one by 8-0 scores to stay undefeated.

Hanover’s Rine Uhm, Izzi Davis, Margaret Werner, Bri Laycock, Mindy Wu and Grace Li all earned unblemished singles victories. Laycock and Wu won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles, and Emma Watson and Emma Reissen won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Hanover (5-0) travels to Windham on Friday.

Track and Field Oxbow Competes at LI

Lyndonville, Vt. — The Oxbow boys placed fourth and the girls placed fifth in Wednesday’s Lyndon Invitational meet at Lyndon Institute.

Oxbow’s relay teams performed well, as the Olympian boys’ 400-meter team took fourth and the girls 3,200 team took third. Willy Moreno was seventh in the triple jump, and senior Jared Garvin took seventh in the shot put and 16th in the discus.

Rivendell’s Owen Pelletier won the long jump and the high jump and was third in the 100.

Boys team scores: St. Johnsbury 215, South Burlington 164, Lyndon 68, Oxbow 40.

Girls team scores: St. Johnsbury 287, Lyndon 111, South Burlington 107, Oxbow 6.

Thetford Boys Edge Hanover

Hanover — The Thetford boys defeated Hanover by two points in Tuesday’s track meet at Hanover High.

Thetford led the way in field events, as Caleb Davidson took the shot put (39 feet, 10 inches), Alex MacVeagh won the long jump (13-9) and Noah Perry placed first in the javelin (129-4). Sage Whitecloud took third in the 200-meter dash, and the Panthers placed second in the 1,600 relay.

Hanover’s Sam Ives was second in the boys 100 and 200, and Morgan Baughman placed first in the boys 800. Lebanon’s Ryan Milliken won the 100 dash.

Lebanon led the way in the girls’ meet with Emily Ball winning in the 100 and 200 and Corrine Kennedy placing first in 100 hurdles.

Boys team scores: Thetford 129, Hanover 127, Plymouth 120½, Lebanon 106, John Stark 36½.

Girls team scores: Lebanon 185, Hanover 98, Thetford 93, Plymouth 92, John Stark 41.

Hartford, Woodstock Split

Springfield, Vt. — Hartford’s girls track and field team beat Woodstock by 61½ points while the Wasps’ boys team came out ahead in a meet at Springfield High School.

Hartford’s Shanan Hamilton led the way with first-place finishes in the girls 800, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. The Canes’ Rachel Seaver placed second in the 1,600 and fourth in the 800. Julia Anderson, Megan Newton and Sarah Boulanger swept the top three spots in the discus, and Ileana Sirois won the 100 hurdles.

Hartford’s Deveon Martin edged Woodstock’s Bill Wood by two seconds in the boys 400 dash. Wood followed up with a win in the javelin, while the Wasps’ Cole Wescott won the discus and took second in the shot put.

Boys team scores: Woodstock 150, Springfield 137, Hartford 118, Rochester 10.

Girls team scores: Hartford 210, Woodstock 148½, Springfield 98½, Rochester 5.

Men’s Tennis Dartmouth Returns To NCAAs

Hanover — For the first time since 1997, the Dartmouth men’s tennis team is going to the NCAA tournament.

The Big Green will battle Tulane in the round of 64 at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. The first two rounds of the tournament will be played May 13 and 15.

Dartmouth closed the regular season on April 23 with a 4-0 victory over Harvard to finish with an 18-8 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Ivy League play. The Big Green spent the entirety of 2016 in the national rankings and is currently sitting at No. 39.

College Lacrosse Dartmouth’s Leto Top Ivy Middle

Hanover — Dartmouth women’s lacrosse senior Jaclyn Leto was unanimously named the 2016 Ivy League midfielder of the year on Wednesday. The Chatham, N.J., native earned the distinction via a vote of the conference’s eight head coaches.

Additionally, Leto was tabbed a unanimous all-Ivy League first team selection, earning a spot on the team for the third straight season. Leto becomes the ninth player in program history to earn first-team honors three times in her career and the first since Whitney Douthett in 2007.

In all, four Big Green players were recognized for their play this year. Junior Taryn Deck was named to the all-Ivy second team, while fellow junior Lauren Maiorano and freshman Elizabeth Mastrio earned honorable mention recognition.

In men’s lacrosse, Dartmouth sophomore Jack Korzelius was an honorable mention for all-Ivy honors.

College Football Big Green Football Players Sign With NFL Teams

Hanover — Several of Dartmouth football players have connected with NFL organizations following last week’s 2016 NFL Draft, signing free-agent contracts and earning invitations to rookie mini-camps.

Two Big Green players have inked their names to free-agent deals. Center Jacob Flores, a two-time All-Ivy League lineman, signed on the dotted line with the Green Bay Packers, while cornerback Vernon Harris, who started every game during his career and all-Ivy League three times, reached an agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Among those headed to mini-camps are wide receiver Ryan McManus (New England), safety Troy Donahue (Denver) and defensive end Cody Fulleton (Seahawks). Defensive tackle A.J. Zuttah, whose older brother, Jeremy, is an eight-year veteran of the NFL, has been invited to a pair of mini-camps with the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons.

Record-setting quarterback Dalyn Williams has workouts scheduled with the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition, cornerback Chai Reece is participating in the Canadian Football League free agent camp and has survived the first round of cuts.
