Ascutney, Vt. — Larry Richard Ayer, Sr. of Ascutney, Vt. died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

He was born in Claremont, N.H. on Oct. 5, 1949 the son of Percy Elmer and Louise “Dolly” (Simms) Ayer.

Larry had worked as a dry waller and craftsman for himself and other companies.

He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, cribbage, watching Nascar and football as well as reading. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Tre and Relic. Humor and his handlebar mustache were a big part of who Larry was.

The family includes his wife, Joyce (Sherette) Ayer; his sons, Larry “Phelicks” Ayer Jr. and his wife, Hillary, of Claremont and Benjamin Ayer and his wife, Amanda, of Claremont; his daughter, Misty Ayer of North Walpole; two grandchildren, Larry “Tre” Ayer III and Relic Hanna Ayer; his sister, Jane Companion and her husband, Dan, of Claremont; two sisters-in-law, Jennifer Ayer and Lorraine Goyette; step daughter, Michele (Sherette) Gosselin and her husband, Mark; six step grandchildren; his friend, Rob Woodhams and his wife, Sheila; also several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Thomas Goyette and Donald Ayer; and his longtime friends, Leonard “Spunk” Deline and Ronnie Martin.

Visiting hours will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Friday, May 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A graveside service will be held in the West Claremont Burying Ground on Sat., May 7 at 11 a.m. with Marthe Dyner officiating.
