Lebanon Man AccusedOf Felonious Sexual Assault

Lebanon — A 35-year-old Lebanon man is being held on $25,000 cash bail on accusations that he forcibly raped a woman who was known to him.

Ramon Romero De Jesus appeared in Lebanon District Court on Tuesday to answer to four aggravated felonious sexual assault charges. At the hearing, a judge set his bail. Romero De Jesus didn’t enter pleas.

An officer subsequently transported him back to the Grafton County Jail in North Haverhill pending a probable cause hearing on May 16.

UPDATE, JANUARY 2019: Prosecutors dismissed charges against a 38-year-old Windsor man who police had accused of raping a woman he knew in Lebanon in 2016.

According to an affidavit in the case, the woman went to Romero De Jesus’ Lebanon apartment on Monday because “he wanted to talk.” When she arrived, he invited her in and hugged her against her will, according to the affidavit.

Romero De Jesus then pushed the woman onto his bed and assaulted with her while she told him “no,” the affidavit states.

The woman then left his residence and went to the Lebanon Police Department to report the alleged assault. When police questioned Romero De Jesus at his residence, he first denied that the woman was ever there, but subsequently told police they had sex that “was not forced.”

Each charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Windsor Woman PleadsGuilty to Forgery, Larceny

White River Junction — A 36-year-old Windsor woman pleaded guilty to forgery and petty larceny charges and received a deferred sentence in Windsor Superior Court on Tuesday.

Michelle Cormier originally faced nine charges stemming from allegations that she found a checkbook while cleaning a Windsor woman’s home and wrote herself hundreds of dollars in checks.

Cormier took a plea deal, ultimately pleading guilty to three of the nine counts, including one felony forgery charge and two misdemeanor petty larceny charges.

Windsor Superior Court Judge Theresa DiMauro handed Cormier an 18-month deferred sentence and released her on probation conditions, including that she tell future employers about the offenses if her position involves handling money.

She must also pay $425 in restitution to the 59-year-old victim.

Following court proceedings, Cormier told a reporter she didn’t commit the crimes, but instead pleaded guilty to “get it done and over with.”

The case came to light after the victim in late-December received a bank statement that contained an image of a check written to Cormier that the victim didn’t authorize, according to an affidavit in the case.

Norwich Board to Meet With Architect About Police, Sewer Upgrades

Norwich — The Selectboard is scheduled to meet today with a Montpelier-based architect it has hired to plan renovations to the police and fire stations.

The architect, Jay White, has signed a $33,000 contract with the town to replace the old police building, which has substandard interview rooms and a leaky roof, among other deficiencies, and to improve the fire station.

During special meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at Tracy Hall, board members will review the program they put together last year for the project.

The agenda says the discussion will include a “schematic site plan, floor plans, elevations and estimates of probable costs.”

The meeting follows years’ worth of planning and debate over the scope and features of the facilities renovations that culminated in Town Meeting votes in 2015, when two roughly $3 million bond requests were defeated.

In his winning proposal to the town, White offered to cut costs and give board members and municipal employees the means to “sell” the idea to voters.
