Manchester, N.H. — Rev. Fr. Leonard R. Foisy, 85, of Manchester, died Friday, April 29, 2016.

Born in Claremont, N.H. on Sept. 3, 1930, he was the son of Rosario N. and Lea (Lambert) Foisy.

Father Foisy was ordained a priest on June 15, 1957, by Bishop Matthew F. Brady, at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. He studied at St. Andrew Seminary, Rochester, N.Y., the Seminary of Philosophy, and the Grand Seminary, Montreal, P.Q., Canada, where he earned a S.T.B. and S.T.L. He attended the Sulpician Seminary of the Northwest and was a full member of the Society of St. Sulpice. He attended the Theological College of Catholic University, Washington, DC and St. John’s Provincial Seminary, Plymouth, Mich. He earned a masters degree in theology from the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Father Foisy served as academic dean, vice-rector, and rector of St. Thomas Theologate, Kenmore, Wash. He was a member of the Provincial Staff of U.S. Province where he served as director of formation and recruitment. He was elected vice-chairman of the board of trustees at St. Mary’s Seminary & University, Baltimore, Md. Afterwards, he was rector at St. Mary’s Seminary from 1977 to 1980.

He served as associate pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Lebanon, Sacred Heart Church, Concord, and Saint Mary Church, Claremont. He was also temporary administrator of Saint Joseph Church, Claremont, Saint Mary Church, Hillsborough, and Sacred Heart Church, Laconia.

Father Foisy was director of the diocesan office of the Permanent Diaconate with residence at Notre Dame College and part-time chaplain, Man-chester. He served on the Diocesan Priests Continuing Education Program and the Council of Priests, representing the Manchester West Deanery. Father Foisy was also chaplain to the Manchester Police Department.

Father Foisy was appointed pastor of Ste. Marie Church, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Manchester. Later, he was chaplain at Concord Hospital as well as Catholic Medical Center, Manchester.

Family members include several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Services: The Rite of Reception of the Body will take place Friday, May 6, 2016, at 9 a.m. in Ste. Marie Church, 378 Notre Dame Avenue, Manchester. Fr. Foisy will lie in state from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the church. The Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, will preside at a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at10:30 a.m.

A private rite of Committal with burial will take place in Saint Mary Cemetery, Claremont, N.H.

The Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester is in charge of the arrangements.
