West Lebanon, N.H. —
Gary was a native of the area, born on Oct. 29, 1962, and raised in Claremont and an alumnus of Stevens High School where he became a scholarship donor.
In his high school years he became a sports enthusiast of The Ohio State University football and basketball programs and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors degree in communications. He continued long after graduation as a true “Buckeye” fan following and attending college football and basketball games. While at Ohio State, Gary joined Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity where he made lifelong friends.
At the persistence of his dad and to the chagrin of his mother, Gary purchased Gnomon Copy Company in 2001. To the surprise of his mother and the “I told you so” of his dad, Gary became a very successful and respected businessman in the Upper Valley dedicated to his business, his employees, and his customers.
Growing up in Claremont, Gary had a wonderful circle of boyhood friends who continued to be a great source of friendship and humor throughout his life. Their periodic get togethers and sports interests were a delightful highlight for Gary and their extended families became his dear friends as well.
He purchased his first motorcycle in high school and his last motorcycle when he returned to New Hampshire 15 years ago. He enjoyed snowmobiling as well, but the best stories and laughs can be told about his big love – his MG convertible purchased during his college years.
Gary had strength of character, was smart, strong, had a fantastic sense of humor, a great personality, an excellent sense of business and was an avid, opinionated, political advocate.
He was deeply appreciative of the nurses and doctors care at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center as well as that of Dana Farber Hospital.
In addition to his mother, Gary leaves three sisters, Phyllis Marcus, Bari Caplan-Bolger and Joanne Elgart; his brother-in-law James Bolger; his nieces and nephews, Andrew and Ethan Marcus, Alison and Nicholas Bolger, and Sara and Leah Elgart.
Funeral services will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home in Claremont on Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m.
Visiting hours will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Meyer David Cemetery. Following the graveside service a luncheon will be served at Temple Meyer-David on Putnam Street, Claremont.
