At age 22, photographer Seth Goodwin, of Norwich, Vt., traveled to the Soviet Union for two weeks in the spring of 1988 with his history professor. He returned with images of daily life during a time when change was imminent. “It was the first time in my photographing that I felt I had a project and a goal in a place that was very photogenic.” “It was the first time all of that came together for me,” Goodwin said.
