HANOVER — A pair of third-period goals helped the Dartmouth men’s hockey team upend visiting Colgate, 3-2, on Friday night at Thompson Arena to give Reid Cashman his first win as Big Green coach.
Mark Gallant scored on the power play late in the first period to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead. Dylan Witzke and Nick Unruh each had assists. Colgate would answer in the second period to knot things up at 1-1 heading into the third.
Harrison Markell put Dartmouth in front at the 7:04 mark of the third with another power-play goal, assisted by both Sean Chisolm and Witzke. Chisholm then scored three minutes later to put the hosts in front, 3-1, with an assist to Tanner Palocsik.
Colgate scored at the 13:01 mark of the third to get back within one by the Dartmouth defense, led by goalie Clay Stevenson (29 saves) held the line to preserve the win.
Dartmouth (1-2-0, 1-1-0) is back in action at Thompson on Saturday against Cornell at 7 p.m.
POTSDAM, N.Y. — The Big Green (1-3-0, 1-3-0) lost in their road opener to the Golden Knights.
Dartmouth goaltender Maggie Emerson made 31 saves in the losing effort. Clarkson scored a power-play goal in the first period and then added two more in a five-minute stretch during the second to pull away.
Abby Grexton and Celine Pietraszek each had good scoring chances for the Big Green in the third period but were thwarted by outstanding saves from Clarkson goalie Michele Pasiechnyk.
Dartmouth is back in action at 3 p.m. on Saturday at St. Lawrence.
ITHACA, N.Y. — Three players had double-doubles to lead Dartmouth in a win over Cornell (25-18, 25-20, 27-29, 25-20).
Karen Murphy had 18 digs and 21 kills for the Big Green (13-7, 5-6). Taite Ryan had 24 digs and 13 kills, and Makenzie Arent contributed 21 assists and 18 digs.
Ellie Blain, who finished with 16 kills, had multiple kills early in the first set to help Dartmouth secure that pivotal early win. A Blain kill, an Emma Engstrom ace and three Cornell errors sparked a five-point rally to help the Big Green to an early lead in the decisive fourth set.
Dartmouth is back in action on Saturday at Columbia.
