WEST LEBANON — New Hampshire will start making payments to help homeowners and renters pay heating bills Sunday, while Vermont’s program began in November. Both run through April.

This winter, New Hampshire families and seniors with an annual household income at or below 60% of the state median income may apply for the program. This is a household income of $87,949 for a family of four or $45,733 for an individual, according to a release from the New Hampshire Department of Energy.

In Vermont, households with a monthly income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level may be eligible; this is $3,151 monthly for a household of one or $5,639 for four. The amount of benefits a household receives are based on household income, energy cost and housing type.

Applications are open for both states through the winter. Details are available through the Tri County Community Action Program for Grafton County residents, at tccap.org/services/housing-and-energy/energy-assistance-services/, Southwestern Community Services for Sullivan County residents, at scshelps.org/energy-assistance/ and the Vermont Department of Children and Families for Vermont residents, at dcf.vermont.gov/benefits/fuel.
