SOUTH ROYALTON, VT — Nancy Jane, Rademacher, (Mabey), Hobart passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, comfortably surrounded by her family.
The daughter of Wilffred and Catherine Rademacher, she was born December 14, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey. She attended schools in Verona, NJ, graduating from Verona High School in 1955, and later earned an Associates degree from Morris County College. In 1972 she married her current husband Garret “Garry” A. Hobart of Morristown, NJ. where they lived for many years with their children.
In 1983 Nancy and Garry moved to South Royalton, Vermont where they maintained a sheep farm. she was a strong, independent woman who enjoyed gardening, painting, birthing lambs, and helping hay the fields well into her 70’s. Along with enjoying time on the farm, Nancy had a passion for traveling. She and Garry explored all 50 states and spent time internationally in North, Central, and South America, The Middle East, Africa, Europe, and New Zealand, but she was most proud of earning membership in the VT 251 Club.
While living in NJ, Nancy was very involved in Democratc politics, serving as a Democratic state committeewoman of Morris County NJ, an Elector for President Jimmy Carter, and a delegate to the Democratic National Midterm Convention in 1974. In Vermont, she was a member of the Windsor County Democratic Committee for many years.
In South Royalton, she was a long term member of the Woman’s Club including being its president for many years. She also was a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and a member of the town’s rescue squad. Nancy was a Reiki Practitioner and volunteer at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center for 6 years. She also volunteered at the South Royalton Food Shelf and enjoyed quilting, and was a member of the Pomfret Ladies Sewing Circle.
She is survived by husband Garret, daughter Kathleen Bunnell of Tunkhannock PA; son Kevin Mabey and wife Lisa of Hanover, NH; son Chris Mabey and wife Julie of South Royalton, VT;, Step Daughter Caroline Lederman of Amherst, MA.; and sister Marlene Kleindinst of Albuquerque NM. She was predeceased by her twin sister Carol Koenig of Montclair, NJ; sister Mary Sue Fredricks of Westerville, OH;, nd brother Robert Rademacher of Phoenix, AZ . She is also survived by six grandchildren: Doug, Kara, Parker, Pierce, Eliza, and Hayden, and one great-grandchild Carson, and predeceased by grandson Dean.
There will be a graveside service at the family cemetery in the spring.
