Windsor — An 85-year-old Windsor woman who was hit by a motor vehicle as she walked to her mailbox across Route 5 earlier this week has died, family members confirmed on Friday.

Marguerite Tetreault was struck just south of Harpoon Brewery on Tuesday by 39-year-old Windsor resident Arden Sanborn, who was driving north, according to police.

Windsor Police Chief Bill Sampson said on Friday that the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

“The outcome of the investigation will determine if charges are warranted,” he said via email.

He said he wasn’t sure just how long the investigation would take.

Tetreault was a mother of three who loved everything outdoors, said Bunny Lavoie, a longtime friend who is a retired Windsor schoolteacher.

“The thing she loved most to do was to go hiking in the woods, that’s what I remember doing with her so often,” Lavoie said, adding that Tetreault also enjoyed kayaking.

“She went where ever she felt like going that day and I was happy to tag along,” Lavoie said. “She was just a wonderful person.”

Friend Barbara Rhoad agreed.

“She was a great gal and she loved to hike and be outdoors,” Rhoad said. “She loved her family and they took such good care of her. We will all miss her.”
