WINDSOR — Windsor High’s two-time defending VPA Division III field hockey champions took a little bit of time to find their scoring touch in Thursday’s quarterfinal match with Milton before pulling away for a 4-0 win at MacLeay-Royce Field.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Annie Preece got Windsor on the board with 8:24 left in the third quarter with an assist from senior Karen Kapuscinski, who also assisted on senior Peyton Richardson’s goal with 1:27 left in the third, making it 2-0.

Late in the fourth period, junior Alexina Peckinpaugh put the game away with 1:43 left, and freshman Gabriella Gilbert made it 4-0 on an assist from Richardson with 30 seconds remaining.

The Yellowjackets dominated play, with Milton goalkeeper Emma Philbrook making 21 saves. Windsor’s senior keeper, Lindsey Young, was not tested at the other end of the field.

“We definitely dominated the whole game,” said Windsor coach Jody Wood. “We started playing our game in the third quarter and looked a lot stronger. It was good to see balanced scoring from our front line.”

Wood also praised Milton’s Philbrook for her aggressive play in keeping Windsor scoreless in the first half.

Windsor (9-5-1) will now play fifth-seeded Fair Haven, which beat Montpelier 2-1, in a semifinal match on Tuesday at home.

The Jacks split with the Slaters in the regular season, winning, 5-3, on Oct. 5 at MacLeay-Royce and losing on the road, 2-1, on Oct. 13.
