White River Junction — Freshman Zoey Pfeiffer continued the strong start to her varsity career, scoring a career-high five goals to lead the Hartford High girls lacrosse team in a 12-7 victory over visiting Vergennes on Monday afternoon.

Pfeiffer added two assists to lead the surging Hurricanes (5-0). Greer McCarty added three goals and Morgan Pero scored a pair. Alice Dwyer and Michaela Ricker had a goal and an assist each. Carolyn North added one assist.

Hartford led, 10-5, at halftime. There’s no rest on the horizon for the Canes, who will visit Spaulding this afternoon as they continue a stretch featuring five games in seven days.

“Overall, the team effort was great. Zoey was outstanding, she’s a little sniper out there,” Canes coach Heather Hartford said. “I’m proud of the whole team. To be 5-0 is great but we have a big week ahead of us.”

Goaltender Emi Harlow made eight saves for Hartford. The Canes are already approaching last season’s win total; Hartford was 6-11 a year ago.

Boys Lacrosse

Woodstock 15, Stowe 6

Woodstock — Lucas Piconi scored six goals and goaltender Gabe Marsicovetere made 16 saves to pace the Wasps (4-1).

“It was a great game by Gabe, he made a lot of big saves and made it easy for us to get some fast breaks up the field,” Woodstock coach Brandon Little said.

Caden White had two goals and a team-best eight assists. Cullen McCarthy and Patrick Potter each had two goals. Micah Schlabach, Jed Astbury and Isaac Emery had one goal each. Field Willis had a pair of assists. Piconi, McCarthy and Astbury chipped in one assist each.

Woodstock visits Hartford on Thursday.

Harwood 11, Hartford 9

White River Junction — The Hurricanes came up just short against one of the better teams in VPA Division II.

Goalie Kyle Prior made 18 saves to keep the Canes within striking distance throughout. Reece Thompson had four goals and two assists to lead Hartford. Dawson Nalette added three goals. Jacob Derosier added a goal and one assist and Hunter Hutchinson scored once. Logan Raymond and Alex St. Martin had two assists each.

“This was a really good game,” Hartford coach Bill Elberty said. “They’re a really good team, they’re well coached and have a lot of excellent players. This was very good going for our boys to realize we can play with (Harwood).”

The Canes (4-2) host U-32 on Wednesday.

Bedford 13, Hanover 6

Bedford, n.h. — The Bulldogs went on a 6-1 run in the second quarter and held on to top the Marauders (3-6).

Graham Penfield had three goals to pace Hanover. Brian Pattison added a pair and Pete Warhold had one goal. Colin Rozzi had a pair of assists. The Marauders visit Essex (Vermont) on Wednesday.

Laconia 16, Lebanon 5

Laconia, n.h. — Nate Chickering had three goals and an assist for the Raiders (1-3).

Aaron Damren added a goal and two assists. Patrick Mason scored and Jack Sandmann had an assist. Goalie Caiden Skakalski made 10 saves for Lebanon, which hosts Monadnock on Wednesday.

Softball

Woodsville 13, Lisbon 1 (5)

Woodsville — The Engineers improved to 6-1 with a dominant showing against the Panthers.

Alyssa Prest went the first four innings in the circle, striking out eight. McKenzie Dennis struck out two in an inning of relief. Dennis added a 3-for-4 outing at the plate, driving in two.

Emily Prest was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Suzie Bazzell had two hits and scored four runs. Maggie Daly had two hits and two RBIs, including a walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to put Woodsville in front by 12, forcing the mercy rule.

The Engineers will visit Lisbon on Wednesday.

Hartford 19, Woodstock 0

White River Junction — The Hurricanes shut out the visiting Wasps in chilly, wet conditions.

Almost all of the hitters in the Hartford lineup had hits, including an RBI triple and an RBI double from Kylee Beaucage. Bailey Bean went the distance in the circle.

Hartford visits Brattleboro on Wednesday.

Baseball

Woodsville 9, Lisbon 2

Woodsville — Zach Moore struck out 13 over 5⅔ innings of work to lead the Engineers (5-1) over the Panthers.

Moore allowed just three hits and walked three. Cooper Davidson finished out the game in relief. Lisbon scored in the first inning to lead, 1-0. Woodsville answered with a run in the bottom of the second and then scored six in the third inning to take command.

Corey Bemis was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Travis Stoddard had two hits, three RBIs and scored a run. Dakota Hernandez was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and one RBI.

“We’re looking pretty good,” Woodsville coach Brent Cox said. “Our defense has come back to life after a rough first game. We continue to put the ball in play and be aggressive.”

The Engineers get another shot at the Panthers on Wednesday in Lisbon.

South Royalton 7, Chelsea 1

South Royalton — The Royals improved to 5-0 behind a dominant pitching performance by Dominick Small. Small allowed three hits and walked two while striking out 10 in a complete game. SoRo scored four runs in the third to take control of the game.

Carder Stratton had two singles and scored three runs for the Royals. Jake Hewitt had a double, two RBIs and scored twice. George Carr had a pair of hits. Austin Tracy singled for his first career varsity hit. Zeb Perrault singled and had an RBI.

SoRo hosts Twinfield today.

Women’s Lacrosse

Colby-Sawyer 21New England College 6

New London — The Chargers were dominant in the semifinals of the NAC tournament and will visit Castleton on Saturday in the conference championship game.

Nicole Lavigne had six goals, seven draw controls and three ground balls to lead Colby-Sawyer (10-5). Sierra Schuster added five goals and Brittany Ireland had four goals. Sarah Morin had three goals, Jess Tattersall had two and Briana Couture had one goal.

Goalie Kailyn Lapham made six saves for the Chargers.

College Sailing

Dartmouth Third

Hanover — A first-place finish in the A Division race helped Dartmouth secure a third place finish in the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association coed championship regatta.

Christopher Williford, Rebecca McElvain and Sophia Diserio sailed in the A Division while Duncan Williford, Paige Clarke and Peninah Benjamin competed in the B Division. The Big Green finished third in B Division.

Award Winners Announced

Hanover — Dartmouth coach Ron Rainey announced team award winners for the 2017 season.

Senior Brittany Champagne and junior Remy Borinsky both received the Player of the Year award, presented to the player who, in the opinion of her teammates and coaches, was the most valuable on the field.

Bonnie Shea received the Larry Garrity Award for most outstanding first-year player. Chloe Conacher won the Wally Bell Award for her strength as a teammate on and off the field. Zainab Bakrin took home the Keith Kurowski Award for courage and enthusiasm despite adversity. Bianca Ribi won the Lucinda Fernald Cup for ability, leadership, sportsmanship and dedication to the Dartmouth women’s soccer program.
