Burlington — A former Vermont circus coach whose conviction was thrown out last year in a 2006 sex assault case has accepted a new plea deal.

The Burlington Free Press reported that 65-year-old Vladimir Avgoustov, of Winooski, Vt., has pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd and lascivious conduct. A charge of aggravated sexual assault on a child younger than 10 was dismissed.

The Russian native had been serving time on charges he sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl who was a student at a summer camp connected with the now-defunct Vermont School of Circus Arts.

A judge ruled in December that Avgoustov wasn’t properly notified of possible citizenship consequences when he accepted a plea agreement in 2007.

Avgoustov remains jailed in St. Albans Town, Vt.

A sentencing hearing for Avgoustov is scheduled for Sept. 30.
