SPRINGFIELD, NH — Byron MacArthur Charles Sr., “Mac,” died peacefully in Lebanon, N.H., on August 22, 2019 at the age of 75.
Mac was born on June 15, 1945 in Andover, N.H., where he was raised by Hazel and Pete Streeter.
He graduated from New London High School in 1962, then served in the United States Navy as a Submariner from 1962 to 1966. While serving, he married Diane S. Patten, his high school sweetheart. Mac enjoyed being self-employed and owning a Plumbing, Heating and Electrical Contractor business for over 40 years, gardening, hunting, fishing, the outdoors and being with family.
He was an active member of the Ross Post 40 American Legion and served as a volunteer firefighter over 20 years before retiring as the Springfield Fire Chief. He was an active and dedicated member of the Sutton Free Will Baptist Church and often volunteered at Church events.
Members of his family include Brent M. Charles of Jaffrey, Dawn M. Braley of Canaan, Wesley W. Charles of Springfield and Byron Charles, Jr, of Haverhill; Ray Streeter of Massachusetts; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mac was predeceased by his parents, Pete and Hazel Streeter, Sutton, N.H.; his loving wife, Diane S. Charles of Springfield, N.H.; and his brother Thurman Charles of Corrina, Maine.
There will be no calling hours and a nonpublic burial service.
