Voting by Australian ballot on town officers and zoning amendments will be held on Tuesday, March 13, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m at Whipple Memorial Town Hall. The floor portion of Town Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at the Kearsarge Learning Campus Outing Club Gymnasium.

New London — A three-way race for town clerk and a bike rack ordinance are among the articles on New London’s Town Meeting warrant.

Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday to settle a race between incumbent Town Clerk Linda Nicklos and challengers William Kidder III and Barbara Vaughn for a three-year term.

Selectboard member Janet Kidder is unopposed for re-election to a three-year term, but Mark Christensen, Kim Ilg, Robert Prohl, Tacee Walker, Tyler Beck and Lauren Chadwick are competing for three three-year seats on the Budget Committee.

Additionally, John Raby, Gerald Coogan and Bruce Hudson are all competing for a one-year seat on the Budget Committee.

One proposed zoning amendment, to help promote alternative means of travel, would create a bike rack ordinance that adds them to accessory structure language in the zoning code.

Another amendment would create an “institutional theater district” and includes two properties owned by New London Barn Playhouse.

Total operating budget appropriations, if approved by voters, would be $7.47 million, about a $210,000 increase over last year’s.

The amount to be raised in taxes would increase by $206,000, to $5.27 million.

One of the articles to be voted on the floor on Wednesday requests $500,000 for the purchase of land that could be used for the site of a future municipal building or buildings, but would not house a transfer station.

It requires two-thirds voter approval.

A petitioned article concerned about global warming calls for the Town of New London to pledge to rely 100 percent on renewable sources of electricity by 2030, and 100 percent renewable for heating and transportation by 2050, and to help businesses and residents reach the same goals.
