Croydon Police Chief Richard Lee said no one was in the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, which was parked near the driveway at 311 Route 10, at the time of the fire.
The cause of the blaze is believed to be electrical, Lee said. No foul play is suspected.
The fire broke out around 9:50 a.m. and a large plume of black smoke rose into the air until fire crews arrived shortly after.
Firefighters used water and foam to try and extinguish the flames, but the gas tank slowly melted, releasing fuel and reigniting the fire, Lee said.
No one was injured.
The car is owned by Cote Swenson, who lives at the home.
