Lyme, N.H. — Tom Hughes died on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, from complications associated with lung surgery. Tom was born on Aug. 14, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y. and graduated with a B.A. in Sociology from St. Francis College and an M.Ed in Group Counseling from Seton Hall University. The early part of his career was spent supervising community child care facilities in the metropolitan New York area. After working with the Haverstraw Enrichment Movement in the Hudson Valley for more than a decade, he moved to Lyme with his wife Maureen Byrne in 1994. In Lyme he worked as a building and grounds manager at Crossroads Academy, as sexton at the Lyme Congregational Church, and as CEO of Mr. Imp Services.

Tom Was a warm and friendly person who called many people friends. He loved to laugh, tease and listen to stories. He found his true home in Lyme: “Brooklyn is the place of my birth, Lyme is the place of my heart.”

A memorial of Tom’s life will take place on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 3 a.m. at the Lyme Congregational Church. A reception will follow. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Neighbor Health Clinic or the Union of Concerned Scientists. Arrangements are under the direction of Rand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hanover.
