HANOVER — The Dartmouth College men’s tennis team opened the season with a doubleheader sweep Saturday, beating Binghamton and Bryant at the Boss Tennis Center.

The Big Green lost the doubles point in their 4-2 victory over Binghamton’s Bearcats, but won four of the five completed singles matches. Senior Pierce Widdecombe made quick work of Adi Ben-Ari at No. 6 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Alex Knox-Jones beat Anshumat Srivastava 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4, and junior Anders Gibbons won in straight sets as well at No. 3.

After junior Dominik Pauli lost his match at No. 1, freshman Carlos Guerrero Alvarez clinched the Dartmouth victory with a three-set, come from behind win at No. 2.

Later the same day, the Big Green eased past the Bulldogs, 6-1. Pauli and Knox-Jones won easily at No. 1 doubles, and after a loss at the No. 2 spot, junior Alejandro Quiles and freshman Daniel Webb edged their opponents in a tiebreak at No. 3 to give Dartmouth the first point.

Knox-Jones, sophomore Andy Ilie, Widdecombe, Webb and Guerrero Alvarez all won their singles matches in straight sets.

The Big Green host Fordham and Boston University this coming Saturday.

Women’s Tennis St. John’s 6, Dartmouth 1

HANOVER — The Red Storm handed the Big Green (1-1) their first loss of the season Saturday. Freshman Ujvala Jupalli had Dartmouth’s only point with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Two other singles matches were pushed to three sets.

The Big Green remain home next weekend to take on Boston University and UMass.

Women’s Basketball Big Green fall to Princeton, Yale

Dartmouth trailed by 34 points at halftime en route to a 78-35 loss at Princeton on Saturday, then fell 57-43 in a makeup game at Yale on Sunday.

Sophomore guard Mia Curtis had a career-high 20 points against the Tigers, but nobody for the Big Green was in double figures against the Bulldogs.

Next up for Dartmouth (1-16, 0-5 Ivy League) is a home date with Columbia on Saturday.

Men’s Hockey Big Green drop home games to Clarkson, St. Lawrence

HANOVER — Dartmouth (3-11-2, 2-7-1 ECAC Hockey) played to a thrilling 5-5 tie Friday evening against Clarkson before falling in a shootout, then lost 3-1 the following night to St. Lawrence.

Neither team led by multiple goals in Friday night’s game against the Golden Knights, and senior Jeff Losurdo’s goal with just over two minutes left in regulation tied it at 5 and set the stage for the shootout.

Freshman Matt Hubbarde scored the Big Green’s only goal Saturday on a power play in the third period to cut Dartmouth’s deficit to 2-1, but the Saints’ Justin Paul sealed it late.

The Big Green host Union in a makeup game Wednesday, then travel to Cornell and Colgate over the weekend.

Women’s Hockey No. 4 Quinnipiac 3, Dartmouth 1

HAMDEN, Conn. — The Big Green lost their fifth straight game Sunday to the fourth-ranked Bobcats.

Freshman Laura Fuoco’s fifth goal of the season accounted for Dartmouth’s lone tally, an equalizer late in the first period. Quinnipiac retook the lead earlier in the second, then added a shorthanded goal later in that period. Freshman goaltender Maggie Emerson had a strong game, with 43 saves.

Dartmouth (8-13-0, 2-12-0 ECAC Hockey) is back home this weekend against St. Lawrence and Clarkson.

Squash Dartmouth loses to Cornell and Columbia at home

HANOVER — Both the Big Green’s men’s and women’s teams fell 6-3 to the Big Red on Saturday, while the men lost 7-2 and the women 8-1 to the Lions on Sunday.

Against Cornell, the Dartmouth women’s victories came from sophomore Ellie Burke at the No. 4 slot, senior Darden Gildea at No. 7 and junior Neeya Patel at No. 9. Patel also accounted for the Big Green’s lone point against Columbia.

On the men’s side, freshman Christian Shah, junior Lucan White and freshman Quintin Campbell secured wins against the Big Red, with White and Campbell winning again against the Lions.

Both teams (3-6, 0-5 Ivy League) are back in action Friday at Yale.

Skiing Big Green finish second at St. Michael’s Carnival

JEFFERSONVILLE/HUNTINGTON, Vt. — Spurred by a first-place finish from the Nordic 10K freestyle women’s team, Dartmouth took second overall at the St. Michael’s Carnival, behind Vermont.

Freshman Jasmine Drolet won the first two collegiate races of her career, winning the women’s 10K freestlye and 5K classic.

The Big Green have next weekend off, then head to the Vermont Carnival on Feb. 4-5.

Track and Field Dartmouth women top Yale and Columbia, men falter

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Big Green women finished with 78 points in the tri-meet, ahead of the host Bulldogs’ 56 and the Lions’ 43.

Freshman Julia Reglewski took first in the shot put, sophomore Lauren Godwin won the long jump and freshman Danielle Pringle led the field in the 60-meter dash. Junior Julia Fenerty won the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 13.87 seconds and senior Abigail Brazil was first in the 3000 meter race.

For the men, who finished one point behind Columbia, junior Eric Gibson set a personal record in winning the 3000 meters, finishing in 8:11.03. Sophomore Will Daley won the 1000 meters and sophomore Aidan Robinson took first in the 800.

Dartmouth heads to the Boston Terrier Classic on Friday and Saturday.

Swimming and Diving Big Green win Tate Ramsden Invitational

HANOVER — Both Dartmouth teams carried home victories this weekend, with the women defeating Northeastern and UMass and the men also defeating the Minutemen.

The men’s team won all but one of the 18 events, including wins by freshman Alex Ye in the 100-yard butterfly, junior Tim Park in the 200-yard freestyle and junior Kyle Schubert in the 3-meter diving.

Highlights for the women included senior Mia Leko’s win in the 100 fly, freshman Mary Howley’s victory in the 100-yard backstroke and senior Sarah Minnigh’s first-place finish in the 1650 free.

The Big Green next compete at Columbia on Feb. 5.
