Bertha is a laid-back 10-year-old calico cat. She loves people and would be a wonderful companion, especially for someone who is home a lot. She’d love to curl up next to you on the couch, but a soft bed in a window would make her just as happy. She would prefer to be your only pet.
Beautiful Bertha has special needs due to a tumor on her side. Her quality of life is excellent and she’s a happy girl, but a permanent home would make her even happier!
Bertha is up for adoption from the Upper Valley Humane Society, located at 300 Old Route 10 in Enfield and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Upper Valley Humane Society is also on Facebook and Instagram and can be reached at 603-448-6888.

“Hi there! My name is Jake and I’m a 5-year-old neutered male chocolate Lab. That’s my best buddy, Rylee, in the photo with and we’re looking for a family that will adopt us together.
“I’ve been with Rylee since she was a little puppy and I was only 1. We were brought to Lucy Mackenzie when our family decided that we needed more attention than what they were able to give us. We did live with young children in our previous home, but we’re a pretty energetic twosome, so it wasn’t always a good match.
“We’ve been working on lots of things here, and I think we’ve come a long way! We’ve been learning to be more patient and how to keep four paws on the floor. We love to play with one another, and to go on walks. That’s actually been one of the best things about being at Lucy Mackenzie — going on nice long walks together with the people here. It’s so much fun! Actually, I think pretty much everything we do is fun. I love life and I would really love a life where Rylee and I could be together and have an area to run and romp around in. Rylee likes cats, but I don’t, so sorry to say we will need a cat-free home.
“If you have room in your home and heart for two great dogs, stop in and meet us today!”
Jake and Rylee are up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.

Louis is a super cute, doofy-looking kind of guy who just wants a hug. He is a medium-sized orange tabby, with a rather large, pink nose. We aren’t sure how old he is, so his body may or not still be growing to match his sizeable head.
He is always pleased to see volunteers. He rubs on his enclosure and talks about how excited he is about breakfast or dinner. Feedings are the only occasions that he is more interested in than petting and hugs when the cage door opens. We will know more about him after he graduates to one of our community rooms, but for right now, we know he is a total sweetheart — and adorable, too.
Louis is up for adoption from the River Valley Animal Protection League, located at 60 Cummings Ave. in Charlestown and open to the public Mondays, 4-7 p.m., and Saturdays, 1-4 p.m., or by appointment by calling 603-826-3061. The River Valley Animal Protection League is also on Facebook.

“We are 9-month-old Suzi (calico) and Koby (black). We are adorable sisters that want to stay together! We were rescued as babies when we were found as strays in very bad shape. Our foster mom took great care of us and was hoping to find us a home, but she was unable to so she brought us to the shelter.
“Due to our rough start, Koby is blind in one eye while Suzi has an eye that is runny. We also both have very bad dental disease. The humane society took good care of us and we had to have most of our teeth pulled. Koby also almost always has her tongue sticking out. Neither of us needs medicine and we are both able to eat wet and dry food fine. And we are both absolute lovebugs that just want attention and love to purr!”
Suzi and Koby are adoptable from Sullivan County Humane Society, located at 145 Broad St. in Claremont. Please see hours on the humane society website at www.sullivancountyhumanesociety.org and Facebook. Call 603-542-3277 or email sullivanhumane@hotmail.com.
