More reasons to disagree with Gov. Scott
On Monday, I read Lynn Bohi’s letter about some of the reasons she disagrees with Vermont Gov. Phil Scott. Then, unexpectedly, I saw Lynn in person when we both showed up to volunteer at a Window Dressers workshop at Damon Hall in Hartland. I told her I would add my two cents’ worth.
Here are my two main reasons for disagreeing with the governor:
1. His suggestion that we address the housing shortage by building houses in wetlands, which we used to know as swamps.
2. Cutting property taxes by legislating a mandatory effort to consolidate schools.
The Vermont Legislature did do a school consolidation effort about 10 to 15 years ago. Even with declining student enrollment, the cost of education has not gone down. It has gone up. Someone needs to look at the real reason behind rising costs and not just rearrange the chairs in the classroom.
