Consider Vt. State. Rep. VL Coffin’s voting record

We are writing to voters in Weathersfield, Proctorsville, and Cavendish in hopes that all of us pay close attention to the upcoming election of a representative to the Vermont House. The towns have both conservative and liberal factions, as well as progressives and independents. There is a critical need to elect someone who can listen to constituents of every opinion. Mark Yuengling is running on the Democratic ticket. He has no voting record as yet to represent him, but VL Coffin of the Republican Party has a voting history.

Through websites such as Vote Smart, Vermont Conservation Voters, legislature.vt.gov, Billtrack50 and Ballotopedia, a voter can track Coffin’s voting record. We will mention a few of the decisions he made during his tenure in the House in case readers want to contact him for more details.

On bills of concern for the environment, listed by Vermont Conservation Voters, Coffin voted “no” on six bills and “yes” on two. He voted down a bill to regulate siting of data centers (H.727). He voted down two bills requesting reporting on: sources of greenhouse gas emissions (H.740) and economic impacts of switching to clean energy (H.125).

Coffin supported Act 73, including school consolidation without local input, and state-mandated funding framework, class sizes, and larger districts. Coffin voted no to a bill authorizing citizens to sue federal officials for violation of constitutional rights. Voters might want to ask Coffin about his stance on electric vehicles and on the safety and validity of our elections in Vermont.

We hope that all registered voters will vote early or in November.
